Went to another shop after a screaming match with owner of first shop. Second shop couldn’t figure it out. I just spent the last year rebuilding my parents first company truck. It’s a 2001 Ford 7.3 and I absolutely love the truck. I’ve never pulled apart an engine in my life and am always looking to push myself and try new things so I went and tore the engine down to the bare block, resealed and replaced everything I could to build it back up to continue to be the reliable work horse it always has been. Seeing work done like this on that motor makes me sad. I may have never done significant engine work in my life but I made sure to look up every torque spec, KZbin video, service data I could possibly find on how to properly do the work I needed to do. I missed things here and there and exposed some problems I didn’t see at first but over time I fixed all of those issues and any problem I created I took money from my own pocket to fix it. I want to take pride in my work that I do and to do it right the first time and if I don’t, make sure I make it right in any way I can. Everyone will make mistakes, I’m only 25 and I have definitely made mistakes but I’ve learned so much from those mistakes so in the future I can do the best I possibly can. When I finish my current company projects I plan to do my biggest project yet, an actual cab off engine and body swap with some beat up trucks to make one really good work truck for myself to use. I have big plans and videos like these from you guys gives me the confidence to really push myself and just see what I can do, keep learning and keep helping anyone I can. Actions always speak louder than words and I sure have thought about just giving it all up and going back to some 9-5 but I’ve stuck it through and kept at it. Cheers Dave and crew!

Nothing at all the P400 that I put in it. to replace the old 6.5 diesel because the P4 hundred is brand new versus the other ones that were just factory remand so I went the other way instead of getting the factory man and the other one was actually cheaper than factory, but anyway, the shops here don’t like working on them for some reason, don’t know why but they just don’t but I wish you guys were here in Albuquerque like watching you guys work on KZbin keep up the good work. @@rockriveroutdoors810 Don’t know who you are really don’t give a damn but anyway the P400 in our world was highly sought after until they discontinued it people still want it is still a 6.5 diesel the guts are the same a little bit more modified but basically the same if you look it up, but at least I don’t have to rely on DEF or EGR or anything else that screws up these new engines you’re right about one thing I’ll never be able to make more than 400 hp out of this engine reliably I really don’t care. My truck is easy to work on for the most part injectors are fairly inexpensive. $45 a pop and they’re easy to get to try that with your new diesel trucks. You won’t find injectors that inexpensive anywhere for new trucks, I’ll keep my old one. At least I know it to run that all this garbage that they’re putting on these new ones 70+ years old I just find it harder to work on it. That’s why I need to find a reliable shop OK.

@@jerrydlaughrin2880 you literally can’t even give 6.5s away in the Midwest, even when running “correctly” which is rare, they are gutless pigs that can’t get out of there own way. A big block gas truck from the same era will run circles around a 6.5 and out last it with a tenth the maintenance and issues. And a gas truck regardless of year compared to what ever diesel you want to compare it to will still be largely more reliable and thousands and thousands cheaper to maintain. Diesel light duty 1 tons and less trucks such as yours should’ve never even been a thing.

That thing sounds pretty sweet boys. Dave your son poured the coal to a new motor while you were fishing. Guess that must be break in procedure. Im one of the few GM fans still around so good to see one saved from a total hacker.

There are so many techs out there that will go the extra mile for the customer. It's a real shame that mechanics have the reputation they do. I have personally delivered a car at 9 pm on Christmas eve. And I'd do it again. College kid trying to get home. Felt for him. But we're not all bad and not out to scam you every time

Because of this distrust in mechanics I learned to fix everything myself. I've seen so many deceived people... But I would never fix cars for someone else. It's just too hard and not paid enough...

Pleased to see a great job done, Worked with the design engineers for the duramax engine 24 years ago, doing extreme winter testing Extreme cold -30c at oil pan. Was a great time...cheers and keep at it..

The customer gets all this work done and they don’t want to replace a motor mount? It appears that you still have the air intake system Dave wanted thrown out.

Great perspective videos of the machines that keep this country running. Seeing an honest and very skilled group diagnose and fix very complicated issues is a breath of fresh air. Its really how all shops should strive to be. Gives us all an idea of what goes into making a great shop and business. Thanks for the insight. As a future diesel owner I have learned more in a couple months of these videos then I ever learned about gas engines. Keep them coming.

I'm no mechanic, but I own a few diesels. Just came across your channel, and I love it. If I'm told I need to spend thousands to repair an engine, I rather put the truck on a trailer and tow it 1,000 miles to Dave and the team. If they say so, I'll trust it, happily pay it and have them do it.

I had the tip of an injector split and come off into the cylinder on my 7.3 in 2008. Fortunately it didn't run long but it did a number on the top of the piston and left some marks in the head and the valves. I tore apart and checked the valves to make sure they were sealing and put a new piston in it. 120,000 mi later, It's still running strong. I would suspect that it's possible that you had an injector issue considering he said he just replaced the injectors.

Dave, you should have the customer come in and see the job with the chassis off. Show them everything and that’s the time to point out the extra things that they could do to optimize the new installation. I think a customer would love this and would be more disposed to trusting that the extra funds are going to give them additional value. Good video!

Hey dave! Make sure that when ever u get a duramax that comes in that has that intake pipe going to the y bride to sell the customer something else! It cost me a motor as well from the boost pressure blowing the y bride apart and sucking unfiltered air in. Just trying to help the next guy out

I’ve watched all his videos and I still watch them over and over and in my younger years I would dove in to anything with a motor and when I was 5 years old the old man down the street and he had a small engine shop and I wanted a job and he gave me a old 2 stroke motor mounted to a piece of ply wood and I would pull the rope and I would just love how it worked it just amazed me how motors would worked and I tore it down and I would tell him and he said put it back togather and get to run so few days later I walked to his house with my wagon and motor in my wagon and he said does it run and I told him first pull and he wrapped a cord around flywheel and first pull it started and ran like a top and he went to my house and talked to my dad and after that every day after I did my chores I would go to his house and we built a big scooter all made out of pipe and a big 1 cylinder and we got it done at the end of summer and we would ride it at least a hour every other day. The best days of my life with old man and he died a couple of years and I was heart broken, I lost my best friend and he was gone.

This is the guy you want working on your vehicle. Integrity, honest, very informative. It's quite amazing seeing this type of work done. Getting to the bottom is an important part of the job. There is a reason this bolt is longer or ahorter than this bolt. Always a reason. Dont assume, or youll end up like this guy. On a side note, imagine being the mechanic, if you even call him that, who "rebuilt" this engine. How embarrassing, and you should be ashamed of yourself.
