I will be forever indebted to Chandos Records. The obvious reason, of course, is for their extraordinary catalog of and devotion to great recordings of all composers. Simply one of our finest labels. More personally, it was their incredible recordings of Prokofiev and Dvořák that first introduced me to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. And this ultimately led to my many trips to Glasgow, over the years, to record my own catalog of 40 albums with that remarkable orchestra. Countless happy memories from all my Scottish recording sessions with my conducting team. I can't wait to return.

When I started my classical music journey in earnest several years ago, I went to my local public library and just started picking CDs out at random. I saw the cover art and it immediately grabbed my attention (no shame in occasionally judging a book by its cover), so I picked it up. Then I saw that there seemed to be several CDs with similar art. Turns out they had the entire Neeme Järvi/Prokofiev/Chandos recordings. Not knowing what a treasure trove I had stumbled upon, I grabbed them all (again, mostly intrigued by the art and what little I'd already heard of Prokofiev) and ended up listening to them all over the next few days, a few (particularly the 6th Symphony) on repeat. Unrelated to Prokofiev, but I'm just happy to say that I finally got to see Järvi in concert conducting Chicago a few months ago. As always, thanks for the videos, Dave! These are a real pleasure!

Hello Dave! Excuse my grammar, and this might seem like a moronic question, but what is your way of listening? Do you sit/lie down while listening or do other stuff-like chores, walking, etc? Thanks!

All of the above!

Can we have a little praise for the excellent use of Malevich paintings in the CD booklets?

OK.

You should do a video from the overflow room where you call Chandos, RCA and explain to them what they need to box up and release. You could make it happen 👍

I can't, I don't have that kind of influence.

Went to a performance of the 7th symphony the other day, we got a (tongue-in-cheek) vote on which ending they were going to play. The result was a landslide in favour of the original version.

I did an all-Prokofiev concert some years ago (Finale of Sym#3, Piano Concerto #5 [w/Alexander Toradze]-Intermission- Sym #7), and ended with the finale's Original ending. I then explained to the audience Prokofiev's situation w/the Soviet government and did a "rewind", repeating the final moments with the Revised ending. The audience loved it (but still didn't care for the concert...they were just happy to get out of there with a "bang") LR

There’s a Prokofiev “War and Peace” recording with Richard Hickox on Chandos. Really good sound, but a mostly mediocre cast.
