I'll thank you once again for introducing me to the music of Allan Pettersson. I've been listening to the set I got (on cpo) all year long. This has been a marvelous discovery for me and it's all your fault! ; >

Somebody told me Pettersson was too doom & gloom I told them don’t be ridiculous no such thing. I really need to get the BIS box soon

I also got into Pettersson thanks to Dave, and he’s now my favourite symphonist after Mahler. He’s been my most played composer this year and yes he is way more than doom and gloom. The 9th is actually boppy and fun and the ending to violin concerto no 2 is - dare I say it - joyful! What a tremendous artist and excellent legacy left for us to embrace

You no sooner recommended the MTT box than I bought it, and I've been enjoying it thoroughly and welcoming some of the repertoire that is new to me. It puts me in mind, however, of my treasured Stravinsky in America disc on RCA Red Seal with MTT conducting perhaps the best Agon money can buy. Plus, you get the wonderful cover cartoon of MTT driving Igor through Downtown LA in a convertible. I don't believe you've done a shout-out for this recording, so here I am helping you clear your docket.

I heard a live broadcast of Starchild when i was around 17. Loved it. Luckily i recorded it on cassete tape as the CD didnt get a recording until the Bridge version. I have most of the Crumb box.

That Dvorak 6 by Inkinen is a 2020 release, so perhaps we can add one more to the KOLA list for 2024. My vote goes to Honeck’s Bruckner 7.

Another vote for Honeck here

These are all excellent selections, and they are also an excellent mix (genres) of selections. I will try to recommend to the Utah Symphony that Markus Poschner (its new music director) program the Franz von Suppé Fantasia symphonica. Perhaps even a second commercial recording could be made (on a label like Capriccio or Hyperion, etc.), with the Utah Symphony, led by Poschner.

As long as he avoids Tchaikovsky.

@@DavesClassicalGuide I understand your criticisms of that release, but I still at times disagree. I have heard Poschner conduct 6 live concerts (plus rehearsals) with the Utah Symphony -- since late 2022. He is a fine conductor -- and, as you well know, they all have strengths and weaknesses in terms of repertoire. I am trying to get him to do a Schubert symphony cycle with the Utah Symphony (all 9 symphonies in one season).

My favourite purchase of 2024 is that recent Charles Ives Sony/RCA box probably because most of it was unfamiliar to me.

Thinking of the prince consort gives Dave a British accent.

I bought the whole Complete Crumb Edition as soon as you announced it. And there has been NO Buyer's Remorse, not an iota. I have two discs and a DVD yet to break out, and one of them is the STAR-CHILD album. I've heard MUNDUS CANIS before, and while you were talking about it here, I found myself muttering "Yoda...Yoda...Yoda! BAD DOG." Boy, Crumb was a guy who REALLY lived in "the whole world of sound."

You tease, Dave. I'm sure you pretended to search for the list at 07:00 to give us the obligatory 'opening of the envelope' moment of tense excitement! ✉😄
