Thank you! I've been scrolling through trainers for a half hour or so and your video convinced me to go with this one. I have a very old one that is much larger, it has a mount for the front tire. It works well, but it is quite large and hard to store. Great video, thank you.

I've just ordered one of those but a different brand. A special trainer tyre is strongly recommended by most reviewers. It's supposed to reduce wear of the components and also reduce noise.

Very insightful demonstration. Would you suggest the Alpcour Magnetic flywheel model or the Fluid Flywheel Model? Wondering which would be better for a man with one above the knee, left prosthetic leg. Getting back into riding again. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

Thanks for the video! Does this trainer will work on a road bike trek Emonda 2023 that comes with a bolt on the rear wheel? Thanks !
@davescycling Жыл бұрын
Probably not. I have a Trek Domane with bolt-thru axles, and I do not see how this trainer will work. There would need to be a nut on each end of the axle for the trainer to clamp onto. I am unsure if the Emonda has that but my Domane does not- the ends of the axle are flush with the frame.
@3cordillerasCyclingClub Жыл бұрын
@@davescycling but, since the trainer comes with a screw. Will this screw work and not damage the frame? Thanks
@davescycling Жыл бұрын
Take a look at this link. It may be what you need. It is a bolt-thru axle that provides a nut on each end for the trainer to hold onto. Be sure to check which size your bike takes: amzn.to/47WLlfg

Hello. My bike has a thru axle, do you know how to change or adapt this for the trainer or buy different skewer? Thank you for a great informative video!

I recall that the manual has directions on what to do if you have a through axle. I will see if I can find more info! Dave

@@davescycling Yes, I found the part on 'Robert Axle Project' website. Would definitely recommend if anyone else has this issue. Thank you again for your great video and taking the extra time to try and help with my question! Also, may I ask if your wife found problems or damage to her tire with using the trainer?
@davescycling Жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for the website recommendation! No, so far the tires are fine. I have it set up for the minimum tension on the tire that is required to keep it from slipping. Dave

Moved from california to canada 22 years ago and stopped riding at that time. I'm looking to get on zwift to train for this years Ragbrai. Would a smart turbo trainer be adequate, or should i just focus on finding a direct drive now? My bikes are trek 1200 and 2700, and I am currently looking to get better groupsets for hills. Mine is 53/42 and 13-26 cog. Terrible for hills. I wish i would have known this 30 years ago when i lived in California as i thought i was just not good at hills.
@davescycling Жыл бұрын
d friz, Zwift will work fine with almost any type of smart trainer that can provide resistance. Personally, I would go for a direct drive for the best experience. I have a Tacx Neo and absolutely love it!! The Wahoo units look awesome and Zwift just came out with their “Zwift Hub” trainer for $499. It’s brand new so buyer beware but looks promising! Dave
@dfriz8513 Жыл бұрын
@Dave's Cycling We have 9 months of winter (sept-may), so I was looking to buy the right thing the first time. I have a fluid dumb trainer from 30 years ago but will just end up selling it. I saw that zwift has a couple of dorect drives coming out, but I am leaning towards a wahoo. My bikes are 7 speed, so some mods will have to be done.

i have older bike with nut fasten thru bolt. will this work without changing the skewer hassle?
@davescycling7 ай бұрын
I should work as long as there is a nut on both sides for the mechanism to grab onto. Thanks for the question!
@ScottJohnson-cf8fk Жыл бұрын
How come these stands come with a resistance changer when the bike itself can already change resistance from shifting gears? I'm thinking about getting one but I see some are cheaper without the resistance changer/cable to attach to the handlebars.
@davescycling Жыл бұрын
Relying on only gears to change your resistance will not allow you to maintain the RPM that is comfortable for you. Having resistance on the trainer will allow you to create the most comfortable experience for yourself.

Mine sounds like a chainsaw. The book says to put the flywheel tight enough to make a small flat on the tire you did your basically snug. I have tried all of them and it's so loud I'd rather not use mine. Alpcour offered no help. Any advice?
@davescycling Жыл бұрын
Clifton, what type of tires are on the bike? If they are “knobby” tires with an aggressive tread, that may cause some noise. A smooth road tire will work best. If that is not the issue, maybe you have a unit with bad ball bearings. Mine is really quiet and I did not have to fiddle with it at all. Dave
@cliftonjones4235 Жыл бұрын
@@davescycling it's a more aggressive tire but I've seen other reviewers mentioning using similar tires with no issues. But since the resistor isn't working I'm sure it's just broken out of the box
