This is a powerful cover of a song written in 1965 (Paul Simon; Simon & Garfunkel)!! "Disturbed" has never done a song like this before as they are a Hard Rock/Metal group!! This is truly my favorite song recorded in the past 5 years!! Wondrous and remarkable this is so far removed from Disturbed's typical music that (EVERYONE?) is taken aback and or blown away!! Not until this was released (12/2015) did anyone feel these lyrics so intensely!! This is so much more dominant and dynamic than the 1965 original; not necessarily better!! *This song SHOULD be listened to by anyone who likes music; all genre listeners should experience this song!! IMO, 2 more magical songs, check out Heart paying tribute to Led Zeppelin (2012) in front of the boyz!! Beautiful Powerful Incredible Version!! = kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpaVl32cnsmXrpY and then listen to Johnny Cash remake a Nine Inch Nail song (Electronic Grunge) and own it!! = kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnKrdJmQibd6n6s *if you feel like seeing/hearing something original and extraordinary check this out... I've been running through reactions of this for quite a while now and just came to yours...a bit late, but...eh. I would advise that you listen to the original by Simon & Garfunkel. I heard it growing up, thanks to my parents. I heard the words, but never listened to the lyrics, never really paid attention to them because (in my opinion) they did not do this song justice. They were too soft, too gentle. They meant it as a warning, but it felt...hopeless to me when they sang it back when. This song was made for David. He gave it the anger and power it'd been lacking. I finally LISTENED to the lyrics. (as the song says - people hearing without listening). The lyrics are vitally important to this song.

Good grief! All you young’ens make me feel ancient. Yes, it’s a cover, yes, you probably heard the first line used in a zillion memes, yes the song is over half a century old and still just as relevant today as it was then. A classic. S&G got lucky with how this song became symbolic folk song of the ‘60’s and beyond cumulating with becoming an integral part of the soundtrack to “Mrs. Robinson”. Both versions are excellent but David’s incredible voice and the band’s arrangement of this version is outstanding. It’s is one of the best, if not THE best, of a cover ever made. Even with your interruptions you still got chills from hearing him sing. This cover hits so many people in so many ways it’s a new classic all over again. Glad you enjoyed. Guys, you are the first to realize that the beginning means "silence". So- I immediately understood that the soundlessness at the beginning of the video is just that, "The Sound of Silence". Is that so hard to understand? Most listeners think there is something broken in their headphones or sound boxes!? But the silence reflects just this impossibility to get along without music or communication. The original of S+G is a lukewarm air compared to this version: David sings relatively quietly and telling, increases with the text in the volume and urgency and is angry towards the end, because of the ignorance of the people. Great performance and absolutely convincing strength of the text and the accompanying vocal power.
