When you get a new WiFi router, your Amazon Echo stops working because it can't connect to the Internet.

We have long resisted getting an Echo. Never really saw a need. kzbin.infoUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB When we recently completed some remodeling in our home, we realized we had failed to add a switch to turn on a certain lamp across the room. We couldn't run new wiring (which would have been expensive if we could), so we got our first Echo which completely solved our problem for about $40 (Echo Dot and smart plug). We just ask Alexa to turn on/off that light. Heartily recommend it to solve this kind of conundrum!

*Most important step - before getting into the setup mode for changing wifi you must turn on your location/gps on your mobile/tablet on which you are using Alexa. Without turning on location you will be stuck and could never change your network.

Dave, your video describes my problem perfectly. However, the App on my phone does not give me the option of "wi-fi" on the Echo that is offline. When I open it, under my name the first section is "Connected Devices", which under that is the subwoofer. I even deleted the app and reinstalled it. Same problem. My phone is about five years old, could that be the problem?

Thank you Dave. You speak clearly and slowly enough to follow the steps. I realized that the orange light ring needs to be rotating around for set up. And if the ring is red and solid, then the mic is turned off. I reset it all and it's now working.

In my settings, there is not an option to click on Wi-Fi. I moved from California to Oklahoma and I'm trying to connect to the Wi-Fi in my new place. I do not have a setting that says Wi-Fi. Why would there not be a setting for Wi-Fi on my Alexa app?

Not sure if this works when you have changed the Password on an existing SSID. I had to let the Alexa connection process fail then I would be able to "forget" the previous SSID network (at the Alexa install level) Do a re-choose SSID , then physically type / paste in my robust password. I could not invoke the "saved to Amazon". I have a few alexa devices - not so much fun. Perhaps an user "challenge"

Hi, I have three fire TVs, three echo dots and an echo plus. I also have my Sonos system connected by Alexa. Do I have to change the network on every single one separately? Thank you. I was seeing the orange light but Amazon-Alexa was not appearing in my WiFi settings. Pressing the button for 6 seconds put the Echo in set up mode and finally it appeared on my iPhone wifi settings.

If you are going crazy like I was because these steps are not in the app the easiest way to fix the problem is go to devices and select which device you're trying to connect but what you want to do is deregister your device and go back to beginning and select add device and then it will walk you through the steps and it will work

I have a new router, and my iPad iPhone and computer are all connected to the Wi-Fi network, and I have tried all of the steps up to adding a device. My Amazon echo does not find the device. It keeps telling me to stay within 10 feet of my echo device and check that it’s plugged in and it has the orange light. I’m at a loss.

@@danielle2830 yes! Turned out that you can’t reboot Alexa on your iPad.you have to go thru the app on your computer. Did that and it worked. Good luck.

My aged mum doesn't have a smartphone, but does have WiFi. I want to give her an echo show, so I can call her. Can I go there and install it with my app on my phone, and then drop in, or is that a stupid thought? Thanks

Hi Andy, yes you can use your phone to set up the echo show for your mum. You'll need to set up an Amazon account for her if she doesn't already have one. When you set up the echo show, make sure you sign out of the Alexa app on your phone and then sign in with your mum's details. When you've finished setting up the echo, you can sign back into the phone app as yourself.

We upgraded our router but 80% of my device no longer work. My echo, show, and dot are all fine, just 80% of my smart lightbulbs and outlets are unresponsive in the alexa app and show as offline in their own apps (Sengle/Meross/efamilylink)

Hello Dave, I just moved house and my alexa eco dot 3rd gen won't connect at all to wifi. All my other devices are properly working and are connected to wifi such as phone or laptop but alexa, there is no way I could get it to work. Everywhere else I have been, I could connect it but here, I can see an attempt to connect it in my router menu where I can see all the devices that are connected, but all I can see is this: dhcpcd-6.8.2-armv7l This happens only when I try to connect alexa to wifi and once alexa confirms she can't be connected the same reference will dissappear to the offline devices but she was never online. I believe its because of some router compatibility.. I couldn't wait to be able to use my alexa dot in my new home and I spent 5 hours today and couldn't fix it. Even tried to set up a MAC filter in my Huawei filter to allow alexa device to connecte based on its mac address but the router says there are no restrictions at all or parental controls on to stop alexa being connected but it will just not connect at all. Any similar cases before? Very much apreciate if you could get this around :)

Got a new moden. Got everything connected- phone,pc, and Telefon. Just can´t get Alexa to work. That means I don´t have any lights. I have Phillips hue brigde. It says that it is not connected to the internet. Alexa said to disconnect the moden and the bridge, wait, connect the internet. Wait until all the lights are on, then connect the bridge. On the app, it says to press the middle of the bridge, ( a circle on the app should go round). Can`t get that to work. Do you have another way. So I sit in the dark.

As a COX Communications tech, many homes have Alexia. We upgrade their modem/router combos a lot. Most elderly customers may or may not have the Alexia app on their phones or iPad. If they do, most do not remember their passwords. Can Alexia be a master reset to sync to the new modem?

My Alexa echo will not connect nor find a network. The five echo dots we have did not have a problem. I put the device in the orange setup by holding the action button. I then go to the phone and find the amazon wifi and connect. My phone is within one foot of the device. Alexa says you are now connected to the wifi. I reopen the alexa app and it gives me an error stating no internet found. 'retry' but nothing happens. Tried this five times. Any additional thoughts?
