This is an old video reel of trams on their route through the city of Nottingham in 1902. You can see the old horse and carts and horse drawn coaches. Old shops and people going on their daily business, also old advertising.

And only 12 years away from the Great War. How many of those young men seen in the streets wouldn't even see their mid 20's even?

My grandmother was a little girl in Nottingham when this was filmed. She emigrated to Canada to escape the poverty and raised a family in Toronto. She left a lot of descendants when she died!

Just goes to show you shouldn't worry about anything. Even those who bullied these people in their daily lives are stone dead

I love this footage of my home town of Nottingham. This is Mitchell & Kenyon film, filmed at the start from Station Street all the way up to Milton street & Victoria station(now the Victoria shopping centre). The change along Lister gate is incredible. So many buildings gone. And no Broad Marsh shopping centre, which sealed off Lister gate from Arkwright street(a great shopping street, especially at Christmas). The footage of passengers getting off the horse drawn tram at the top of Lister gate, where the Halifax building society is,The tram going around the market square (Slab Square),and the Old exchange building that stood there for over 200 years, before being pulled down in the late 1920s,and the Council house being built and opened in 1929,The way people are just crossing the roads without any regard for the traffic and cyclists. And the horse muck all over the road.Lord knows how much manure was collected every day! Brilliant film, absolutely brilliant👍

Nottingham had some of the most stunning architectural buildings around till a lot of them were knocked down in the 60's to make way for soulless concrete blocks. Nottingham city council seems to have a habit of destroying their own city, even today.

Amazing film thank you for uploading ! I would say the route is as follows : Starts at Station Street, turns right onto Carrington Street. At 1:05 I would say the road on the left is where Canal street is now. After this point we are going through what is now Collin Street and then Broadmarsh shopping centre. At 1:50 We have now just come out of Broadmarsh shopping centre and we are about to bend right onto Lister Gate. However next to the trees on the left we would expect to see the Walter Fountain but there's no sign of it. Maybe its just out of sight ? Or, is it possible that this video was actually taken before the Walter Fountain was erected, which was in 1866, which would make this video 1865 or earlier ? Did film even exist then ? The Walter Fountain was 40ft tall though so we should surely see it. At 2:12 now we are on Lister Gate and we are going up towards the market square. At 2:35 at the top-right its says "No.1 Low Pavement" which is where M&S is now. At 2:50 the building that says Robson would be where McDonalds is now, Exchange Walk would be just to the right out of shot. At 3:05 we have turned left onto WheelerGate. At 3:20 my guess is the road on the left is Friar Lane which used to be much narrow than it is today. There is a road sign but its too blurry to make out. We are at the market square now. At 3:50 the building on the left is where subway is now, the road going up is Market Street. Griffin & Spalding on the corner is now Debenhams. At 4:15 the building above the market stall is the old Exchange Building, now the council house. At 4:50 we have turned left onto Queen Street. At 5:40 we have turned left and we are on Upper Parliament Street now. The Theatre Royal would be on the right.

I reckon just before 5-40 we have skipped some footage. At 5-40 we are in Milton Street just before it becomes Mansfield Road . You can just spot Trinity Church on the left just for a split second. The big building then on the left is the Mechanics Institute. Just coming up on the right before the film ends is Victoria Station. Anyway great footage. Reckon I saw my Granny on the top deck of on Long Row. Greetings from a Nottingham native now in Australia

@@wiliammound7942 You are spot on - the buildings to the right at 5.40 stand where Victoria Centre now stands, and the final shot of the video is what was Victoria Station with the hotel on the right.

Thanks for that, I didn't recognise the bit from Carrington St 'til it got to Wheeler Gate. Griffin & Spalding, what a grand store that was. Didn't anyone look before crossing the road back then?

I would want to process this film to increase quality and increase framerate, aswell to remove duplicate frames. Would be REALLY great to get the orriginal video for that. Orriginal would be better due to that it would not be "touched" by KZbin algorythms and would be better quality than here in youtube. David Webb, is there posibility you could share it with me?
