Bill Bixby did an absolutely wonderful job playing the role of a compassionate, determined and yet conflicted scientist. It certainly makes you adore the character of Dr. David Banner as he carries on with his journeys and trying to find ways to cure the beast within him. Banner is depicted as a thoroughly good, honest (Where it counts, not the different last name stuff) and caring man and you absolutely want him to succeed every step of the way.

Pratt: "That's INCREDIBLE, almost IMMORTAL..." Decades later we would have The Immortal Hulk comics. Prophetic, wouldn't you say? I grew up watching this, and I always identified with both Banner and Hulk. I was mercilessly bullied as a child in school, and because of this I was always angry, frustrated, nervous, afraid. There were times in school when bullies attacked me, I would try to fight back. From grade school to early high school, I was always in a quiet rage, boiling deep inside. Almost anything could set me off. Then at age 14, my dad took me to a friend of his who had extensively studied transcendental meditation in India. Over the course of a year, he taught me how to calm myself, how to bury all that rage. It also helped my school work improve. So growing up, Hulk was the only fictional character with which I felt a sort of kindred spirit, and the combined acting of Lou Ferrigno and the late Bill Bixby as Hulk/Banner is my favorite version. Bixby passed away from cancer in 1993 when I was 21, so I never got the chance to thank him for essentially portraying a version of myself on-screen. I must one day thank Mr. Ferrigno as well, for giving me the image of my tortured childhood rage to focus on. When I was learning meditation, my teacher once asked me to try and describe my rage in picture form. Almost immediately, I told him then that my ideal image for that rage was Lou Ferrigno's Hulk and Bill Bixby's David Banner was my calm yet nervous version. I remember my teacher smiled and said that yes, he loved that show as well, and so did his children (who happened to be two of my grade school friends). He said that I had picked the perfect image.

You all do remember that the Hulk doesn't hurt or kill anyone and he has helped people in trouble. He has saved a lot of lives. He is NOT evil. He is a hero. In one episode of "The Incredible Hulk" he grabbed a woman who was about to fall off a cliff and pulled her to safety. In another episode he rescued someone from a fire and he saved a woman from drowning. And he cried when someone died. The Hulk is primal, but he has a conscience and is capable of goodness and compassion. He is a force for good.

I was In 2nd grade and this movie came out around the time Bixby was diagnosed with cancer and I could not stop crying at the end of this movie. My mom told me to write him a letter so I did. He never wrote back, I was heart broken. Found out a few years ago my mom never mailed it. 😡😰

Actually this movie was released for television viewing in 1990. Bixby who after this movie appeared in 1992 on one episode of "Diagnosis of Murder" was directing the first season on the show blossom while battling cancer. He died November 21, 1993.

I know that how David Banner becomes the Hulk in the 70's TV series is different from how it's done in the comics and the movie adaptations. However, this is how I first came to know the Hulk, and I take this as canon over any other media. I also feel that this is perhaps the most tragic and heart-felt portrayal of the Hulk. The second might be the movie adaptation - as Banner stated in the Avengers movie, he was driven to the point where he tried to eat a bullet, but in his words, "the big guy spat it out." I also think that David knew that damage that might be catastrophic enough to kill the Hulk would end up killing him as well. Knew and accepted it.

Both parties have valid arguments. On David’s side of the debate, he is still alive and unexposed because of both the Hulk’s limitless power and humanity’s insufficient attempts to cage him. His track record says it all; every attempt to induce A controlled transformation has led to chaos and destruction. In the pilot, he was locked up in a pressure chamber, and the creature tore through it like it was cardboard. In the season two premiere married, a hypnotic trance recounting the steps that lead to the creation of the hulk resulted in a transformation that led to him escaping from the house. And of course, every physical structure that has been used to contain banner like bank faults or giant wooden crates have proven ineffective to contain the creature. He even defeated a government operation called Prometheus which had facilities with the best chance of capturing and containing him (a pronoun I hadn't heard David use that much in reference to the Hulk; I guess he's choosing "him" instead of it so that he himself doesn't feel that much cut off from humanity). Hell, he even hulks out when he’s asleep. Knowing all that, Banner cares for Pratt’s research and cannot risk any of it destroyed by his other self. to David, that would be utter selfishness and disregard for the consequences. It would be similar to the initial reckless actions that led to his life in ruins. However, even Ronald has a point. Science is about observation and recording data, followed by analysis and conclusion. To understand the problem he has to observe it in action. But thankfully, unlike two decades ago, the technology exists to withstand the Hulk’s rampage in a controlled laboratory. This is David’s best shot at having a clear scientific study of his hulk state. And it also opens the door to both the cure for David, and advancement in Ronald’s own research on the human body’s ability to heal. It’s a win-win whether David likes it or not. I watched this when I was 10 and it was the best TV movie I ever saw; I cried at the end because this was the death of my hero. And based on what I heard about the sequels to the death that could have come to pass if not for the low ratings of this premiere and Bill’s own illness, this would’ve been like infinity war before endgame.

I would pay good $$ for the script to 'Revenge of The Incredible Hulk' just so I could visualize the scenes in my head. I'm not sure if Jack Colvin was supposed to be involved, but could you imagine a scene where McGee confronts Banner? McGee: "YOU....the whole time it was you. That's why they never found your body in the lab....I saw you carrying Dr. Marks' body. I saw you, and I didn't even know it." Banner: "I didn't kill her. I tried to save Elaina." McGee: "I know. I know, because you saved ME....maybe more than I deserved. In Las Vegas. That forest fire.......my God.....that was you the whole time....John Doe." The way David explain about the Hulk make it look like that iteration of the character is more like a caveman,that David unlocked his inner primitive instincts,like that at some point all human were more like the hulk,that our ancestors needed to be stronger to survive the harsh environments of nature during those more primitive times. And in a way,Lou Ferrigno interpretation of the Hulk do kinda look like a caveman. This is what separate the tv show from all other iterations of the character.

It would've been incredible if there had been an Amazing Spider-Man-Incredible Hulk crossover when those shows were on CBS-TV in the 1970's,though the Incredible Hulk series made it into the 1980's. The ratings for those 2 shows if that crossover happened would've been very high.

It almost happened, actually, around 1984. There were already plans for a Hulk reunion tv movie, but it didn't happen until 1988's "The Incredible Hulk Returns". In '84, Bill Bixby wanted to do a Spidey/Hulk crossover movie and he even met with Nicholas Hammond, the actor who played Peter Parker in "The Amazing Spider-Man" tv show. Hammond was on board, there was a script written, Bixby was to direct the film. They were even going to use Spidey's black suit, as it was the same year that the suit had debuted in the comic books. But there were some shady things going on behind the scenes with the network executives and the people at Universal, a lot of back and forth crap. So the project ended up being cancelled, unfortunately.

Had Jack Colvin appeared in The Death of The Incredible Hulk, the reporter would probably tell Dr. Pratt that he's been hunting the Hulk for 12 years and that the creature did a lot of damage across America. Who knows if the scientist would argue with the reporter claiming that he hasn't seen the creature, just as David Banner said he hasn't seen it just before David's lab exploded after he took McGee outside the lab and would've been reported to the police.?

I love the character and storyline and Bill Bixby is the only one to play it right. However, some dialogue contradicts past information and timelines. David only used radiation once, the overdose, and he was presumed dead at the end of the pilot. He never had papers explaining the use of radiation. I know I'm reading into it too much but you want the movies to compliment the series. Bill made every episode as good as it could be and some were exceptional. He made you feel here like you were standing in the room listening along to their discussion.

SPOILER ALERT AHEAD David had discovered that the subjects that he and colleague Elena marks examined shared a special genetic deviation in their DNA that interacted with gamma radiation filter through sunspot activity. Further, he shared that same genetic trait, but on the day his wife died there was lower sunspot activity, and therefore his body cannot access that strength. Even if his DNA had that special genetic trait on a more enhanced level than the others. As to the “moving too fast” part, once he figured this out, he decided to experiment with this theory by subjecting himself to a controlled gamma injection. Unfortunately the equipment he used had not been fully calibrated after an upgrade. Therefore, he did not know how much radiation the machine was capable of and set the levels with outdated knowledge of how high it could go. Instead of the assumed preset amount of 300,000 units, he wound up absorbing almost 2,000,000 units of gamma.

Dr. Ronald Pratt & his wife could've asked David if it was worth it to let the world believe that he was killed in a lab fire with Elaina Marks thought to have been caused by the Hulk. Everywhere David went his alter-ego caused a lot of damage and sometimes the bad guys tried to kill him whether as himself or as the creature. If Dr. Platt asked that question, would David have the courage to answer it?

It would've been good to see Dr. Ronald Pratt standing up for David after he fell into a coma falling out of an exploding plane as the Hulk while fighting against a bad man & a bad woman. He would've cried for David while telling the public that David didn't kill Elaina Marks in a lab explosion as himself or the Hulk and that he should be pardoned for all the damages he caused while fighting against evil everywhere he went.

He initially wanted to control him and tap into the strength he needed to save his first wife. Had Bill lived on they would have made another movie where David actually gained control over his hulk outs. The Hulk was going be able to think and speak intelligently. It would have been a great way to wrap up the series instead of killing him off.

It turned out that he wasn't immortal after all. I think having him die to rid himself of the beast was a horrible way to end the show. As a writer and actor myself, I understand that it was a tongue in cheek manifestation of "curing the disease by killing the patient," but they could have addressed it in a different way.

Banner,the father of David Banner in the 3rd season Incredible Hulk episode titled Homecoming,in which David Banner decided to come back to his hometown for Thanksgiving after seeing his kid sister,Helen Banner,a scientist like him,on the TV,only that he had to risk her getting angry at letting her,their father,and their hometown thinking that he was killed in a lab fire which was caused accidentally by Jack McGee,the reporter who bumped into an explosive chemical and spilled it in the storage room at Banner's lab when he was in there to confirm his suspicions that David Banner & Elaina Marks lied to him and to the law about no knowledge of the Hulk,who scared a little girl and threw her father into the lake after getting shot in the shoulder while saving her from drowning with a tree he pulled out of the ground? The chemical blew up the lab after Banner & McGee got outside and Banner changer into the Hulk without McGee seeing him and carried Elaina out as the Hulk,with McGee seeing it for the 1st time before they went into the woods after another explosion occurred in the burning lab and McGee couldn't go after them because he twisted his ankle when the lab blew up and believed the Hulk killed 2 people for knowing too much about him.

That is mouthful right there man, talk about long winded. The actor who played D.W. died in 84, six yrs before this movie. One would assume, David's real father had passed by this time as well, who knows about the sister, perhaps she had moved on with a life of her own and he did not want to interfere, or she may have passed as well.

I always wonder what is it about Banner he's had several people tell him he and the creature are not killers.....do to Banner's personality..........his Co-Worker who died in the pilot episode told him straight out that the Hulk will not kill because David Banner will not kill. his second wife he met who was going thru her own health issues told him the same thing.......Banner even Read the Diary of the Scientance who accidently created the First Hulk "Frye's Hulk in the episode called The First" the Scientist said Frye's Creature is guided by Dale's personaility. which was true Dale was a killer.........but Banner's Hulk is guided by his personallity and Banner is not a killer.......yet clearly in this scene..he does not believe what he was told...........when he says people think the hulk is a killer and one day they might be right...........obviously he is not believeing what he is told.
