That’s because he lost the belt both times for not being disciplined. Canelo wanted to be undisputed at 168 after Benavidez lost the belt on the scales during the pandemic Canelo had stated that he would never fight a Mexican during this time and it stands true till this day. I’m not taking any sides at all but Canelo has only two places to go. One is to fight Bivol in a rematch or fight Benavidez for undisputed anything else would be considered a duck by the public.
