David Benavidez (19-0, 17 KOs) and Ronald Gavril (18-2, 14 KOs) put on a sensational bout in the main event of ShoBox’s special edition at The Joint inside of the Hard Rock Hotel. The main event saw Benavidez survive a 12th-round knockdown to win a hard-fought split decision over Gavril.
The judges scored it 116-111, 117-111 for Benavidez, and 116-111 for Gavril.
The victory earned the 20-year-old phenom the vacant WBC super middleweight title.

Benavidez commits to the body. That’s how you beat Canelo. Benavidez has the perfect style to apply enough pressure and force Canelo backwards like Bivol did. The only person I’ve seen commit to the body on Canelo was GGG, but by the time they fought the first time, GGG lost a lot of his pop. Still, I think GGG won the first fight. Benavidez is in his prime. He’ll mop up Canelo and be the first to put him on the canvas if Muguia doesn’t get the chance first.
