Almost 5 years since he left us, but it seems like he's still here, esp when I watch these videos. He certainly left a legacy and I'll just bet he was waiting to explore the next world. He'd achieved all he ever wanted and he was ready to move on. Still, it's sad for those of us who miss him.

I was so lucky to grow up during his time. And SO goddamn lucky to see him in Dublin in 2003 (the one that’s on the DVD). I’ve never cried for a celebrity/person I don’t know. But I cried and held my kids when Bowie died. 1:38 “rock n roll stars like you…” omg he was so much more than that.

This is the purest interview of David Bowie I've ever seen. Magnitude of philosophies and inner look of this man, almost distracts me from the fact that he was a musician and an icon. He could be anything and he was everything. I'm glad we will be experiencing what he left for eternity.

Why? It has not affected his skin or looks, he seems very happy. It protects against covid, if he was still around. It promotes contemplation. In fact, with all due respect, we do not have the right to say ANYTHING about what he should or should not do in terms of habits - it is what he does to do what he does. He is an artist. How could smoking protect against Covid!?Covid is a virus not bacteria. It's dead already. Then smokers touch their mouths more frequently. The damage to lungs caused by smoking is well known; and coronovirus kills by effecting the lungs. Being a smoker would surely increase the chance of fatality if you got that virus

It's interesting how he seems really uncomfortable talking about his own sexuality, compared to other topics in this interview like race and his brother's suicide. In other interviews from the 90s he seems equally uncomfortable when asked about his sexuality and he tends to send very mixed messages on the topic. It's weird because he's otherwise so eloquent and expressive in this interview.

I think it is because they are trying to pigeon hole him, categorize him, label him and he doesn't like to commit to an answer because for him maybe it is always changing, but it could be that he doesn't like how personal the question is and struggles to give away everything about himself.

In addition to Andy C's comment, I think that it is natural for younger people to be a lot more open about sexuality (especially since that era), but as people get older and mature it just becomes less of a "raging" topic to focus on... I see younger folks who are figuring out sexuality to be a lot more interested in discussing it, but by your 40s-50s it is pretty old news. I imagine most would rather have sex-life be part of their private-life.

​@@user-uu2cj9ct3j Oh yes, I can certainly imagine why Bowie would be tired of answering the question by the 90s, especially given that he was now in a committed relationship. But I do kind of suspect though that part of the reason he started identifying as straight was due to the AIDS crisis of the 80s and the resulting homophobia and biphobia it led to, and there was an interview in 2002 where he implied that was the case. But of course he was clearly a very private person as well.

@@etanaedelman9011 Well, being in a hetero relationship doesn't necessarily mean you identify as straight, it just means you are in a straight relationship. As someone who is bi-sexual, I can say that one of the challenges is that people think you are just uncertain, and trying to choose between *being* heterosexual or homosexual. Once you are in a committed relationship though, it isn't so much choosing a side as choosing a person. Discussion about one's sexual attraction is pretty awkward in this situation, because once you've already chosen your significant other.... orientation really just doesn't matter. I don't think most reporters would ask someone who always identified as straight about their previous sex life once they are happily married, so I think the question itself is also just a bit inappropriate to be honest. You could definitely be right though. Heck, my parents are pretty anti-LGBTQ, so they aren't even aware of my orientation. Straight relationships for bi people are definitely the "safer" option, per se.

I agree that I appreciate what interviewers must want to ask and the way that they need to go about it delicately. Not delicate as in pandering about and haunting their “ subject”... The balance of having good manners and still remaining oneself, if that person is not completely refined I would think that person should be embraced because there should not be a. A literal. At the end of anyone statement when they’re just doing their best to get through an interview and back into there cozy chaotic normal lives, the ones without eyes and mouth pressing them for answers.💌

I really david bowie lou reed and i miss my adopted dad terence william hardy and how he got vascular dementia and how his life should always be celebrated and life is precise and we need to do good for people and help the elderly and because of this where david and lou lived in new york has a real connection to how i feel in myself and can not wait to go there when physically possible and like david i lost people like john lennon lost his mum in that fateful day when the lord decided her life would end and i think that haunted john for the whole of his life and that is also why david lived in new york not surrey because he probably felt like john he could get a better life for wife and kids in new york!
