This song takes me back to the winter of 1979. Huge amounts of snow in Virginia. I was twenty years old. Fighting my way out of a bad depression. I was driving one snowy morning in my Datsun 510. Good version. I remember years ago I'd just broken up with my girlfriend, packed my stuff and had to get a bus to the other side of the country to see my brother because his was the only door open to me. Anyway, I was sitting at the back, looking out the window, feeling alone and listening to this. It was at the part of the song where he starts thing "My mother said to get things done..." and I saw these horses running over the top of a hill. And in that moment I felt so isolated. Like I might as well have been on Mars, watching strange alien horses cross a Martian dune. Your extended mix of that part brought it all back. Major Tom Syndrome, I called it after that.

The ending is and has always been the best bit, most moving piece of music ive heard and its ends way to soon. No one has ever done a mix of that bit because its to hard.... until now! I was a Bowie fanatic years prior to Scary Monsters, and having loved “Ashes to Ashes” passionately since the day the single debuted, I was completely uninterested in any unofficial remixing. I was practically forced to give this a chance by a friend to whom I’m truly grateful. It’s amazing to hear myself saying it, but I love what you’ve done! And if you’re not a professional audio engineer, you might want to reconsider you choice of career. I have one tiny quibble, and I hope you won’t mind if I ask about it.
