One of the greatest pop songs ever written. He didn't write this one overnight. How many time signature changes are there? Too bad it's so short, thanks for posting. Only Bowie.

by my count it is all in 4/4 despite small variations in timing by it being a demo, in LOVE with the song though

Did you mean key changes? There are no time signature changes.

No time signature changes but quite a few key signature changes

Thank goodness for this demo... elated to hear Bowie on piano handling those augmented chords in the superb modulations of this epic, unparalleled song... always wonfered if it was Wakeman who 'polished in' those highly musical chord shifts... seems not... just shows that Bowie was, well, GENIUS!

Apparently Wakeman was blown away when Bowie showed him the chords because the arrangement was so unusual. Visconti also stated Bowie could play complex stuff on piano.

bowie usually writes every chord progression (he was very good at that) and hands them to his incredible musicians to improvise over them and embelish the song. The only case I know where another musician actually modified the chords was in Let's Dance: Nile Rodgers jazzed them up so it sounded more like a chic/police pop song

Same, this is what I was hoping. Obviously missing the flourishes but this is quite a complicated song and it's thrilling to hear it was all basically already there chordally

@smithjedediah yes, the modulations are very sophisticated for someone who never boasted on his composing talents. Whether it's all by 'ear' or willful musical adventurousness, it still is an astonishing, epic key shifting affair!
