When he said he felt like he didn’t become who he really was supposed to be until 10-15 years ago at that time, I realized how true that was, based on how he carried himself in all of his other interviews. He just seemed so happy and positively humorous in this part of his life. Of course he graced us with smiles and laughter prior to the 90s, but there was always an air of loneliness and seriousness to him. I’m glad David Bowie was able to find true happiness later on in his life (a big thank you to Iman). :)

Love this interview and David Bowie's impressions. He's got Mick Jagger spot on! Here's the Philip Larkin poem that David recited. It's entitled, This Be The Verse They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you. But they were fucked up in their turn By fools in old-style hats and coats, Who half the time were soppy-stern And half at one another's throats. Man hands on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can, And don't have any kids yourself.
@michelle889608 жыл бұрын
+Christine Nichols That is actually my favourite poem. It's so true. I remember working with a child psychologist who had this poem on the wall of his office. And another poster with the lyrics of an Alice Cooper song, (I know, of all people!) which I can't remember, something about children and parents. We are all definitely products of our childhoods, Larkin hit the nail right on the head.

He was just so lovely. It was nice having an older person interview him that let him talk. I see him on KZbin interviewed in the 80s and 90s by so many younger people who cut him off and jump from one question to the next without hearing the answer. It is funny though because sometimes he wouldn't care and would keep going on the initial answer anyway. Just a great insightful man and, oh yes, an unbelievable artist!
@leeannasloan5265 жыл бұрын
I grew up with confrontational interviewers...like Barbra Walters and Matt lauer. The style of interviewing in the late 80s and onward is to humiliate your guest almost...bring up controversial issues and sometimes it may be appropriate if your interviewing ted Bundy. IV been watching a lot of interviews from the 70s and early 80s with David Bowie and John Lennon and the interviews are a lot different. Mostly it seems like listening to a private conversation..the interviewers seem actually interesting in the responses and mostly they listen and seem genuinely interested in their guest. That has changed so much into just interrupting and hurrying the guest up and nothing seems genuine...and the disrespect to the guest is unreal.

Please, I'd love some link to these kind of interviews? Parkinson was a little different. I was lucky enough to meet him once, in 1973 I think, at the pier just before he sailed on the QE2. So warm, humble, genuine.

He was so talented and ever-changing. I listened to him since I was 12 years old, and his music was so awesome. Another great one gone way too soon 💔!

Love how this interview is so unhurried, low-key, and yet full of insights and entertainment. So different than the sort of sensationalized interviews we see today.

Probably the most amazingly abstract & wonderful back catalogue ever left on earth by one man. (No offense Elvis)

God, how I miss this kind of talk show, where the guests seemed to be relaxed, and having all the time in the world.

How can it be, over a year, and still the World is different without him. I am only just beginning to be able to watch him again. Wonderful version of Life on Mars. Humble man who, to me, was a Mystic. Miss you forever.

A real piece of classic and frank talking by bowie and a great Hull accent, loved every second. and that performance... Life on Mars an absolute superb and precise variation of his own work. My Way comes second...

Ah, the late, great David Bowie, so extraordinary, greatly missed! It keeps surprising me how ordinary and down-to-earth he managed to become. What an achievement. Yes, one of a kind.

I listened to Everyone Says Hi every day in the last few weeks of my brother's battle with cancer. It still brings tears to my eyes. Cancer took Bowie from the world in January 2016, cancer took my brother from our family in August 2016 and canine cancer took my beautiful Siberian Husky Nikki from me in December 2016. Cancer sucks!

Sorry for all your losses. 2016 was a truly crappy year.

2016, the year everything started going to shit. Starting with the death of Bowie :(
@anderslarsen49124 жыл бұрын
I disagree. "going to shit" started way before 2016. It was however the year we lost many great ones beside Bowie. George Michael, Prince...Muhammada Ali....
