While working in LA, we got in early to the sound studio on a Sunday planning to get breakfast and hang out, when David Bowie suddenly walked in. He had come in for a visit, arrived from England and couldn't sleep so he walked around Sunset Blvd. by himself until our studio was opened. We told him of our plan for food and asked him if he'd join us, which he did. I got the best food ever from Luther's, who was next door to the Whiskey, and we all munched and read the LA Times for a couple of hours. He was so incredibly sweet and funny. He just hung out and was completely relaxed, the best artist I've ever met, and I feel like I met most of them, Bowie has incredible charisma, he just was one of those people who are "stars", just out of this world. His kindness and hilarity make me miss him to this day. He really had that mysterious charm you can't define, but it was one of the best memories I have of those days....

@@blzbob7936 Wow, thank you! That's a lovely compliment, and I'm not anyone in the business, except for sometimes helping out in the studio. My husband is the sound guy in the family, and has one of those great personalities that everyone loves. He worked with everyone from Prince to Michael Jackson and beyond. He is so good at getting on with anyone and everyone, always relaxed and comfortable. We had a great time with so many amazing people. But, Bowie was really loaded with magic, no one else ever affected me that way, he just had such a sweet way of being funny and making you feel like he was excited to be with you. That was pretty rare in the business sometimes...🤩

My older brother Paul (later a guitarist for the Jim Carroll Band) was friends with a few guys in the '78 Isolar tour. I got home from my mailroom job and my mother told me I had a call from "a Carlos Alomar" with tickets to the show that night (of course I already had a pair). I had the message to meet up with them after the show. Imagine... this 18 year old sitting at a small round table in a hotel bar in Phoenix with George and Dennis and up walks David Bowie. He pulls up a chair next to me. He could not have been friendlier and genuinely attentive. He actually asked me about me. No star ego stuff. He didn't have to do that. He hung with us about 45 minutes. The 3 piece lounge musicians took a break. Roger Powell quietly goes up to the piano and played the Johnny Mathis classic "Misty" and a couple other light lounge classics for a sweet elderly couple, dancing with no idea who the patrons were. A couple hours earlier he was playing "Heroes" to thousands. An evening I will NEVER forget. And to this day I can proudly say I had drinks with David Bowie.

Unlike some rock stars who accepted knighthoods and became part of the 'establishment' that they once rebelled against as young men, David declined when he was offered the chance to become SIR David Bowie. Many of us are Mott the Hoople fans because of David Bowie, who provided Mott the Hoople the option of either "All the Young Dudes" or "Suffragette City." Although "All the Young Dudes" became a massive hit, "Suffragette City" reached the Top 33 of the Decade, which shows Bowie's generosity in offering such incredible songs to a developing band.

Mick should have never been let go by David. They were a magical duo. I’m 68 and well remember when they performed here in Santa Monica. I was in High School and absolutely marveled at them playing and singing together. I’d never seen and heard such a duo. They were brilliant. Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars was and is magical. Those early days were unbelievable still.

Love the man and his art. I was able to see him perform on his Glass Spider Tour in New Orleans as a fresh faced seventeen year old back in '87. I was up in the front row and he knelt down and moved from one side of the stage to the other high fiving the fans. When I got the high five he stopped, pointed directly at me, winked and said, "Yeah, man!" Best concert experience ever.

Was fortunate to catch the recent performance by the Blackstar Symphony: Danny McCaslin, Jason Lindner, and Tim Lefebvre who helped create the original Blackstar recording. Gail Ann Dorsey, David Poe, Nate Wood, and John Cameron Mitchell were also part of the performance led by conductor Tim Davies. They had a 65 piece orchestra with them, and it was an incredible performance. After they performed Blackstar they played some of David's other songs, with Gail Ann Dorsey singing the most beautiful rendition of Life on Mars, which received a standing ovation. I'd like to think that David was watching out there in the stars, seeing his influence and the love that people have for him, smiling beautifully.

This bio is a cream puff piece-- just too flattering. Why wasn't the fact mentioned that Bowie ripped off his band the "Spiders," and Ronson, providing them with NO MONEY and no credit. They were shocked to find out that new keyboard player Mike Garson, who contributed to the Aladdin Sane sessions was being paid $1,000 a week while they were on £30. They asked for a raise and Bowie arrogantly called them all disloyal and after one last performance quickly broke up the band without letting them know in advance. He did not even bother to attend Ronson's funeral.

Carlos is one of the best rhythm players ever & Earl's absolutely iconic lead introduced some of the coolest most interesting solos & phrasing that gave inspiration to a lot of up & coming players. I was fortunate enough to see lots of David in the late 70s early 80s. He was a very generous spirit, but the best thing he ever gave me was some great advice. He told me to invest in a pair of moleskin pants and I’ve been buying and wearing them ever since. Unparalleled comfort and so so stylish. Didn't Bowie turn his back on Ronson when he needed help with cancer treatment? Ronson's guitar is emblematic of Bowie's foundational material. Bowie and Ronson both died of the same cancer, unfortunately.

I like "China girl", "Modern Love" His earlier stuff was really out there so I didn't take much interest in it except for one song "Space Oddity." Adam Sandler used that song in "Mr. Deeds" RIP David.
