As a huge NIN fan, I've seen a million interviews with Trent. This is the happiest interview I've ever seen with him... I can only think that it was Bowie's fault. RIP

You are so right! You rarely see Trent smile in interviews. He's always so conservative & serious. Shy & unassuming as David describes, but he's quite light hearted here. You can really see that David was someone Trent trusted, respected & admired greatly.

@cactaceous
@cactaceous 8 жыл бұрын
+Ironjack53 How am I off base? I love Bowie more than I love NIN but lets have the facts right. This interview is from 1995. The Downward Spiral had come out the previous year and had been an amazing critical and commercial success. Their Woodstock 94 performance was mythologized. Bowie on the other hand was coming off the lucrative but completely panned Never Let Me Down album and the Glass Spider tour, the lackluster reception to both Tin Machine albums and the utter indifference, both commercial and critically to Black Tie White Noise and the ignored Buddha of Suburbia. That's why he went back to Eno on Outside and recruited Trent and NIN for the tour. He needed a spark. He needed a resurgence. He needed inspiration. He needed Eno and Trent to get him back on track. He got it. Outside is his best album since Scary Monsters and the tour was well received and got him back on MTV on high rotation when they both made the I'm Afraid of Americans video from Earthling. I was 16 when all of this was happening and though NIN he got exposure to a much younger demographic. I knew of Bowie but didn't feel compelled to explore until his association w NIN. So, I'm not off base.

@@KevinCease Basically, Trent listened to "Low" a lot while he was working on TDS. The track "a warm place" is inspired by a couple of the atmospheric instrumental synth tracks that are at the end of the "Low" album. The whole of TDS isn't inspired by the Bowie album.

Trent is so young here. It's amazing to see how well he's developed as an artist and gained his confidence. David has always had an amazing eye for real talent and hard work. He scoped Trent knowing how very promising he was. Funny to have such a deep love for both these two individual's art over my lifetime (as a now 30 something year old guy) and come back to find this interview I'd over looked. I knew of their tour together but never watched this. It put a smile to my face to see Trent all uncomfortable. David nonchalant but knowing Trent was to become greater with time. He was right. Trent's been playing in the background with movie soundtracks lately, but doing such increasingly incredible things. Looking forward to Trent's creations knowing David left him with some of his Legacy. I see bits and pieces of David in Trent's works these days, I'm glad and I think Trent gets it what he was given. A handing off of the torch.

I grew up watching the man and his tasteful ways of delivering not only news but memorable interviews such as this. Every once in a while I come back to this video to remind myself that humanity is capable of great things. Just look at these two geniuses. Look at how relaxed they are, like if they were just two random guys having a chat and not two of the most important artsits of our time. The fact that we had these two in music, is enough for you to feel proud of humanity and all the great things we are capable to do. RIP Starman for your incalculable influence on arts. And thank you for giving Trent a light of hope in all that darkness he was going thru in that time. How I wish both of them could have one more musical moment together before the end.

He also looks pretty content in his own skin these days. I'm glad he finally found some peace in himself. Being young and full of rage can produce some very creative stuff but it can also drag you down and it gets tiresome after a while.

Thank God that Trent lived through TDS tour and the extra year of touring with Bowie in '95. David was the catalyst that ended up saving Trent after all was said and done. This tour's transition from NIN into Bowie and the overlap when they were both on stage and Trent looked over and realized that he was at the caliber of David Bowie ended up being his drive to keep on the right track after the tour ended. We are lucky to have new music from Trent Reznor every year and not just a look back at what could have been like we can only imagine with such 90's artists like Shannon Hoon or Kurt Cobain.

These early reznor interviews give me so much hope and inspiration - he's so awkward and uncomfortable i can feel the anxiety but after the fragile (with teeth on) hes so much more comfortable anxiety is a bitch its nice to look at reznor just as obviously bad i imagine i am to others and see the light on the other side much the same also unrelated to my story but always going to heap praise onto NIN - TDS is amazing but The Fragile is a masterpiece and the 6 year follow-up with teeth is close with TDS BUT this is without a doubt the best era of NIN for trent... why? sobriety and getting comfortable with himself lead to absolutely perfecting the live shows in every single way there is not a single song that is not better live from this period

Whenever I watched interviews of David in the 70s, I'm like, pleasE someone feed this poor tiny thing and then let him sleep for like two years lol. Like god someone look after this man. And thats also how I feel watching interviews with trent in the 90s. So it's just like, so heartwarming and satisfying seeing David all healthy and content after having overcome a lot of his own struggles with addiction and whatnot, and like seeing him working with trent musically (which is so fucking cool in and of itself), and also like, looking after trent a lil bit when he was just a "shy unassuming little guy...with a scorching demon inside". And just the way trent seems to look up to him so much. But also like its not even patronizing, like you can tell bowie admires trent's work too. The whole thing just....awh. 🥹 just melts my heart lol. I dont think there will ever again be such an amazing pair, musically or otherwise ❤

Miss those days. MTV was still somewhat cool. Kurt is a legend. Bowie and Trent. I mean, heaven.

i was lucky enough to see this tour. the combined-bands part was fun. unfortunately a lot of the crowd left during Bowie's set, because they were there for NIN

Saw them both in concert back in 1996. One of my favorite concerts along with NIN and Soundgarden back in 2014, a few years before Cornell left this world. My wife had never seen either band live so it was a pretty special time just a couple of months before we got married on Halloween, which happens to be her birthday, our anniversary, and my favorite holiday. It wasn't planned that date. Both of us worked at the same company in completely different departments but HR at our now former company was pure garbage and we both had successful careers so we had to play their game. Never again a company can get bent I'll find something else.

Bowie has worked with some incredible bands over the years. Not just NIN, but also bands like Placebo and Kashmir, and so many others. Dude had great taste in music.

"Hearts Filthy Lesson" still my fav Bowie song to-date! 1995 movie "Se7en" was cool, but the ending credits with Boiwe song? Was unbelievable.. Especially after the GOAT ending to a movie to date.
