I like to picture a long haired Hunky Dory Bowie singing this.

Whoa: RARE FIND! This is awesome, this acoustic version of Ziggy. Thank you for posting this.

+Eddy W. Not so rare because David gave everything he composed to the public domain :) Anyway, if you want to buy it, you can find this song on the 30th anniversary edition (2 CD) of "Ziggy Stardust...." Enjoy !

This is excellent! I’d love it if an acoustic demo of All the Young Dudes surfaced soon. I always felt that an acoustic guitar/voice version of All the Young Dudes would’ve been much better than It Ain’t Easy on The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. It is not only better in musical terms. It also fits the concept much better as “the news” of Five Years is the news that the dudes are carrying. Not good news at all! It’s the end of the world!

I know your post is over 2 yrs old...the Ziggy album with 'it ain''t easy' (a track originally earmarked for Hunk Dory) had already been sequenced before David wrote 'all the young Dudes' around March 1972...so it would never have made it on to Ziggy

Beautifully melancholy. I can imagine an old man recounting Ziggys fall with this song long after. Was the old man a member of the spiders from mars? , a fan? , the star man? or may be Soggy himself? We never found out what happened after the 5 years or if the star man came. But what we do know is there was a man named bowie , and Bowie played Guitar.

I always thought after a passionate night of, admittedly confusing sex, and becoming deeply enamored by love, the Starman announced his presence. Eventually landing and saving us from certain doom, he tries to live among and understand humans and love. Thinking he could make it all worth while as a rock and roll star, he began to fall into vices, and eventually sucked up into his mind. Not yet understanding love, he tells girls to hold onto themselves when he leaves; still so disconnected. As his band falls apart, he's isolated and depressed. He tries to kill himself, but is saved by the people of the planet he saved. He might not fully understand it yet, but the desperate calls that he's not alone takes him on the first step of his journey to understand soul love.

Admittedly, becoming a rockstar seemed very left field, and it's more likely Bowie got a bunch of rocky, spacey songs together and called it an album. I read into things, I literally have a theory the Best Of Cliff Richards album is a concept album from a serial killers perspective.

Almost better than the original. Better than the Bauhaus version
