He wasn’t being loopy he’s autistic. He was being his genuine self. He was clearly confused because he thought he was talking to him and not the praying mantis, and then his confusion led him to a bit of a panic for moment and he wanted to leave(or elope-what we call it when Autistics flee a situation). Then when he realized what was going on, he panicked again because he realized he didn’t have an answer, and was em embarrassed.

it makes sense. radiohead were collectively inspired by the talking heads and even named themselves after "radio head" from "true stories." they also did an interview together in 2007. i am a huge fan of radiohead and talking heads and would be interested in hearing more about the similarities if you would like to elaborate

i do not personally know if he has taken drugs before. most of the strange things seen here and elsewhere are just because he is autistic. sometimes our external behaviors may be considered similar to people when they are on drugs.
