Beginning on October 18, 2024, Foltz Fine Art will present Painting Across Texas: Four Ranches x Four Artists, featuring new works by renowned Texas landscape painters, Mary Baxter (Marfa), David Caton (Utopia), Noe Perez (Corpus Christi), and Jeri Salter (Austin).
Over the past two years, these four “Contemporary Texas Regionalist” artists traveled to four storied ranches across the state, covering hundreds of miles from the Texas Hill Country, to the Coastal Prairie and to two locations in Far West Texas, in order to paint these undisturbed lands.
These artists are joined together by their mutual admiration of the land, history and culture of Texas which informs their distinct approaches to capturing its essence and beauty.
This show gives viewers glimpses into some of Texas’s most iconic landscapes including the Texas Hill Country as seen from Hershey Ranch, near Stonewall/Fredericksburg, the beauty of the Texas Coastal Prairie at Powderhorn Ranch, and the grandeur and surprising diversity of Far West Texas from Caldwell Ranch in the Davis Mountains and X-Bar Ranch in the Guadalupe Mountains near the New Mexico border.
After a two-year wait, the Houston gallery will finally showcase this impressive body of work, including large scale paintings as well as small-scale, plein air oil sketches, inviting viewers to visually explore the majesties of Texas which are sure to enthrall.
Of note, all of these artists are members of the prestigious group of “Contemporary Texas Regionalists” - having been featured in the 2017 Of Texas Rivers and Texas Art project and were selected as “Centennial Artists” for the 2023 The Art of Texas State Parks book project and touring museum exhibition, which concludes later this year at the Tyler Museum of Art.
