I remember this season had an Australian in it so I was cheering for my fellow countryman. On this episode the Aussie guy performed “Don’t You” by Simple Minds and I was cheering because he had the best performance of the night… Then David came out next and blew everyone away with this.

I remember the next day they spoke to Lionel and he loved it then, he said he could have a hit with it again then, and could even see it in the movies like for a soundtrack or anything like that, this was then, I could only imagine now 👍🏻

I think maybe Lionel Richie did not want to be overshadowed? That’s how he stays rich and remain relevant. He allowed this song to be covered, but no one can release it as their own. That’s what I think 🤔

I really liked this too and am a huge fan of his. However his arrangement is heavily based on Incubus’s. The same with Billie Jean. His arrangement was very similar to Chris Cornell and he didn’t give either of these artists credit.
