I have always loved their music. Clearly the harmonies are what put them over the top. It is sad that Crosby was on such bad terms with the other three men but he did it to himself. It seemed to me like he never grew up. He was still saying things without a filter like a child who still hadn't learned impulse control. It was like he was in perpetual rebel mode even towards his friends. And they stood by him through everything-the drugs, jail, his heath scares, etc. And he just kept lashing out at them-publicly-every chance he got. He had the least to offer of the four yet acted as if they were the lucky ones to be in his presence. Very sad ending to a life in which Crosby was given so much yet seemed to take it all for granted.

I’ve been a fan since 1968. Always loved their music and (mostly) what they stood for. I think I’ve seen them - group or individuals - every time they have been to the UK. Would I go now? No. Because their voices have gone. Nash is still very good; Young is still…Young. But the voices of Crosby and Stills are genuine to their age. Nothing wrong with that; nothing to be ashamed of - but the performances detract from the memories I have of them. For many years - too many years to be sane - their music was the backdrop to my life. As I struggled mentally, their music was a comfort. For that, I will be eternally grateful

@@paulwelch1992 I must admit that I haven’t. Perhaps, in a studio setting with all of their technologies, they can create or re-create a true Crosby voice. I am (perhaps wrongly) going by live concerts (I think the last one was in Bournemouth, UK) where Crosby’s voice showed it’s age. I wasn’t disappointed in as much as it is to be expected in most people. I just prefer to listen to the earlier stuff with its purity; although one of my favourite pieces is Stills singing North Country Girl in around 2013?
@paulwelch19923 жыл бұрын
@@theofarmmanager267 Most performers have a Golden period where their voice is at its peak and CSN had a decent run on that. Listening to Crosby on the debut album and then on 'Delta' from 'Daylight Again' (about 13 years apart) his voice retained its beauty. Fast forward another 40 years and it's unrealistic to expect it to be the same but much of the quality is still there. His new album 'For Free' has received excellent reviews and has sold well, (there's a new expanded version of 'If I Could Only Remember My Name' out this month) so at least on record he still sounds good. They are all now into their twilight years and though we'll never have a repeat of the golden years I'm really thankful that we had it when we did and that music will continue to bring joy to all of us who love them. Historic album, top ten in that era for me. Such strong writing talents, and not always moving in parallel paths. Deja vu has folk, country/americana, rock, pop and even sprinkles of jazz harmonies here and there from Crosby (Deja vu) and Young (Country Girl). The how's and the why's of band's breakup are pretty well known by now, but what they created together was a great gift. Imperfect people sometimes do some pretty perfect things. Here's hoping Crosby and Nash can somehow mend things before they cross over.

I was 13 when the Beatles landed at Idlewild Airport (now LaGuardia) in New York City in 1964 and 17 turning 18 when Woodstock took place in 1969. I have seen it all - have travelled around the globe building housing with Habitat for Humanity ---- for people who have less than nothing --- and not much surprises me at this point. But I will say, with more years behind me than ahead of me - Neil Young and Graham Nash - your resentment toward each other has expended a whole lot of energy from both of you - year in - year out - decades worth of carrying around that satchel of resentment over your shoulder. The one who is truly the "adult" makes the first move to contact the other - have a chat - eyeball to eyeball - and you will both walk away liberated and truly free. You don't have to walk away as "best buddies forever" - but you will walk away with peace of mind and freedom from resentment. And isn't that what we were all searching for so many years ago --- freedom? Forgiveness is the path to personal liberation from resentment and it is the freedom you sang about! Crosby Stills Nash and Young are woven into the fabric of my soul like no other. And that 5 year span from 1964 to 1969 was by far the most dynamic period - in my view - in American history - on every single level -- sex, drugs, rock 'n roll, race, equality for women, the undeclared Vietnam War that so needlessly drafted and killed and permanently scarred so many boys --- and I had a front row seat, taking it all in through the eyes of a '60s teenager! Nothing ---absolutely nothing ----can compare...and never will!

Yes. Only a brief mention of the passing of Charlie Watts and Don Everly, and yet they rerun this.

Wow all those years the grudge about Neil's girlfriend. That is so sad. And now no way to make up. Graham I feel sorry for, he really loved David.

Yes, Crosby has a big mouth, he always has. He alienated his Byrds bandmates at Monterey by being outspoken about Vietnam.
@DavidSmith-ss1cg3 жыл бұрын
He had alienated them long before that. I read somewhere that being in the original Byrds was like "The Lord of the Flies" with guitars. It was soon after that when the rest of the group decided that he had to go.

I watched their reaction to the question ‘if they had regrets’ or if they wish they could fix things Pretty unconvincing and insincere responses, especially Crosby.

I admired what he said about the JFK Assassination at Monterey. Bottom line we never recovered from either Vietnam or the JFK Assassination. Way too many lies...paved the way for the nightmare we have today. Anyway, whatever you feel about Crosby he is a very unique and talented individual. At least during that period.

Why can't these great groups that create great music make an extra friggen effort to create and sustain a love with each other? It has become a cliché that they do not!

Let a supposed friend rip apart your lady and see how much love you sustain with that individual.
@DavidJones-wz2wg3 жыл бұрын
Because the same thing that drives one to great accomplishments also tends to drive others away. Being an 'artist' is to no small degree about self-absorption and so most of these bands die from too many egos vying for a shrinking space over time.

Pleased to say that one of my treasures is the original vinyl album, safely stored away with other gems just waiting for, for whatever.

I never had it in vinyl but bought it in 8 track, cassette and CD- I burned the CD for my I Pod. This is the only album I bought for all the medias. My fav cut is "teach your children".

I love the music. At times I can’t listen to it because it causes me to relive difficult memories of that period in my life. I graduated HS in 1970, it should have been a great point in life’s journey. It was not.
