My rule was always never do something while you are still craving it. If you partake today and you crave it tomorrow, don't touch it again until the craving is long gone. Then enjoy and walk away again. If you feed the craving though, it only gets harder the next day.

It’s the difference between drug use, and drug abuse. The problem with coke for some people who struggle with depression, is that even with moderate use, it can completely fuck with your dopamine levels, so that when you’re not using it, you can really feel like shit.

Recreational drug use often ends with one of two (or both) things: 1) Your body can't handle it. 2) Your bank account can't handle it.
@keithmorgan742
@keithmorgan742 5 ай бұрын
Nope. Not true.
@AAAA-lt9hq
@AAAA-lt9hq 5 ай бұрын
Note the word "often." Often =/= always, but the risk of dangerous recreational drug use is high depending upon substance. There wouldn't be a cocaine epidemic, crack epidemic, meth epidemic, opioid epidemic or a temporarily successful Prohibition movement in the U.S. if addictive, harmful substances used for recreational purposes weren't just that: harmful and addictive. I get it that comedians are supposed to be edgy, libertarian non-conformists--like rock stars. That craziness is part of the humor and darkness that often make a tortured artist and thus a "comic's comic." But let's strip that showbiz b.s. away and be real. Both sides of the drug legalization debate are now equally annoying by presenting biased and distorted misinformation/disinformation. I fully take neither side. The truth is not enough long-term, unbiased research has been done into cannabis to fully predict how full legalization might impact public health. (See "Challenges and Barriers in Conducting Cannabis Research" in "The Health Effects of Cannabis and Cannabinoids: The Current State of Evidence and Recommendations for Research." It's on the National Institute of Health/National Library of Medicine/National Center for Biotechnology Information website.) For now, banning substances doesn't fully work. Full legalization doesn't fully work. What I am saying is that many people who say they can handle their recreational drug use responsibly eventually can't. It ultimately spins out of control and consumes them. If they could handle such things, we'd still have greats like John Belushi, Chris Farley, and Mitch Hedberg. This leads to what I should have listed as: 3) Your friends, family, and loved ones can't handle it. It doesn't hurt just you. It also hurts the people around you. In the above cases, fans and the comedy world were hurt by recreational drug use the users thought they could control but couldn't. If it seems like I'm throwing shade on David, I'm not. I'm a big fan. You know that terrible Little Rock, AR crowd from "Let America Laugh" in 2003? Either the one at Vino's or the now closed Juanita's. When the woman kept screaming "Titanica!" I was in that crowd standing along the wall, so I was probably out of the camera shot. Why were they like that? Alcohol. I was one of the few sober ones. David's excellent show that sometimes touched on recreational drug use for humor was ironically ruined by...recreational drug use that was *not humorous.* *To this day, if I met David, I would apologize to him for that crowd.* I hope he doesn't think we're all like that. Nearly every person in the crowd was heckling. A little bit of it is funny. But, if they can hijack a show and frustrate a veteran comedian with a sharp wit and years of experience, it has gone too far. *So, on their behalf, I'm sorry for that show and their disrespect, David.* A lot of them were diehard fans who thought they were honoring you and they took it too far. You were still amazing, though. Thanks for the great memory. I'll never forget the Squagels bit. I think he closed with that.

You’re talking about addiction. Recreational drug use, like doing blow once in a while when you’re on a. If night out isn’t going to break the bank.
@AAAA-lt9hq
@AAAA-lt9hq 5 ай бұрын
Recreational use can lead to addiction. Slippery slope potentially leading to a revolving door of recovery and relapse. "I resent your teetotalling! Don't spoil my fun!" I hear you. Everyone has a crutch. One of the worst crutches we have in this country is processed foods and how sugar and salt lead to obesity and the ever growing healthcare crisis in the U.S. But you need food to live. Recreational drugs not so much. People can be foolish when rationalizing a behavior for their own benefit, especially if it seems others are doing it safely. Considering the mental health crisis in this country and the role recreational drug use plays in self-medicating and escapism, it would be great if recreational drug use could be done more safely, but boy what they make in the labs these days to make sure a user comes back for another high. And who knows who makes it or if your dealer (whom you should know well) really knows what he's selling. Narco-states' covert supply lines and economics can be complex. Going to great effort to verify what is in your supply could make you end up in jail or worse. Drugs aren't a seed bank. When considering an illegal drug market, I'm not sure anyone can practically keep a supply isolated in a low lethality "natural state" while demand increases the potency of everything else for less cost. Let's just say that when it comes to illegal moneymaking, producers and dealers somewhere along the line are not going to be that concerned about public health. Also, it is debatable that in some people with predispositions toward mental illness like schizophrenia, hallucinogens can be triggering substances that lead to mental illness, even with just one use. Best to stay away from it. "But alcohol is worse than weed yet weed is illegal. And doctors are licensed drug pushers supported by the State and the State is the Man and the Man and his Authority suck." I don't have a solution for where to draw a line between right and wrong in drug legalization. That is beyond the scope of what I'm trying to say. What I am trying to say is many people who think they can handle their substance cannot. (And they could be in denial about that.) For those who can't handle recreational drug use, maybe thinking about why they want to use recreationally in the first place is a good place to start. Finding a healthier coping mechanism to stressors, even if that stressor is just boredom, could be a safer alternative to recreational drug use.

I'm an upper person, never got into downers (11 yrs sober). My brother, same. We both feel like our disposition is a gift, cuz fentanyl/tranq keeps killing our friends. It's insane. We did all the coke. I slammed it! Yet somehow that's less risky, less deadly, easier to get off of, and getting off it was a couple yrs of ABSOLUTE HELL.

My crack experience was not great fortunately. It was so weird. I didn’t enjoy the high but couldn’t stop until we ran out of money and got chased away from the block with guns cuz we tried doing the folded bill trick. When I was coming down I blazed a joint and started feeling really shitty and I decided I could never do a drug that makes weed feel bad. Coke is a different story. If I were younger and knew my heart was healthy I’d probably do it a few times a year.

Well this is about as normal as most reasonable people I have ever seen doing it. I literally would say the same thing. Most people it’s just alcohol induced and doesn’t ever get out of control. Some people though that have a weaker will or lack of self control should stay away. People that miss work or steal to get drugs. I like the idea of moderation and the idea of completely braking moderation once in a blue moon. As the saying goes 😮
