I was cheering when he looked at the final question and quietly said "Quercus is a type of tree, Chris". Too cool!! Excellent win!!

it's been an absolutely incredible day today. (Saturday 21st August) on the 9th series of who wants to be a millionaire which is first broadcasted on 21st April 2001, I was watching David Edwards the teacher from Denstone, Staffordshire that he becomes the second contestant to receive a cheque for £1 MILLION. He has now joined by the previous million pound victor Judith Keppel from Fulham, London the gardening designer which was way back on Monday 20th November 2000. He's become the biggest ever winner on this country on the UK version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? David and Viv or Vivian Edwards felt very happy indeed! Good story. It must have been 20 wonderful years ago. what a team and what a player.

It's been back with Clarkson for a few years, I know you wrote this long before that. But it's remarkable the staying power it has, it's just two people in chairs and was meant to be a limited series gimmicky event when it started!

This is awful, I can't unhear the slightest cough after seeing the Major Fraud. Here someone coughed after he said "Quercus is a type of tree, Chris" and I can't help but be in hysterics

they basically just asked him for one million pounds whether the oak is a tree or a flower? You've got to be kidding...i've got the impression that from zero to a million the questions get gradually easier...i wouldn't know a few of the first half of most contestants, but towards a million they become really common knowledge
@strykah9210 жыл бұрын
HiiPPi3 It's no secret that some final questions haven't been as obscure as others, and it's sometimes ultimately a test of nerve, but this was very specific and it was clear that David wasn't sure what the term "robur" adhered to, he even admitted that he thought he fucked up as Chris was hovering over Grain when he returned on the 5th anniversary show. The only question for the million that's been harder is probably Ingram Wilcox's.
@HiiPPi310 жыл бұрын
strykah92 Robur just means something like fortitude or hardness in latin, in that context it means the hard part in the middle of the tree probably. For a romance language speaker it shouldn't be that hard, and english is half romance half germanic language. You are right though, the last two questions were kind of hard. The one with the boxer and the one with the horses.
@strykah9210 жыл бұрын
HiiPPi3 Yeah I've looked into it since, I'm just saying it's not quite as straight forward as it may seem. :P
@HiiPPi310 жыл бұрын
strykah92 then tell me why. Even without knowing what robur means, quercus is oak (like quercia in italian). And thats the genus, and the oak is a tree last time i checked. If the genus is a tree, obviously any species of that genus is also a tree, be it the robur species or any other.
@strykah9210 жыл бұрын
HiiPPi3 Because it's a botanical derivative of a plant, and the only way any British contestant would be realistically expected to know of any is if they had a strong interest in them or studied it within an extra-curriculum not covered by compulsory U.K. education. For example, I think England itself is actually one of two countries in Europe where History isn't required as a GCSE subject.
