Mr. Gates is a very blessed man: He had a GREAT career, changed the world with his music but he never let it go to his head, he handled his personal life and his money with wisdom, and retired prosperously & happily with the wife of his youth and their (now long adult) children.

Married to the same woman 62 years. No smoking and no drinking - Four kids - 3 lawyers and a surgeon - cowboying and ranching...*sigh* By the way “Bread” is a Biblical reference and their first albums were called On the Waters and Manna...So clearly God is in their lives too.

Way back in Summer 1998... David Gates appeared solo at the Cove Haven Resort [Lakeville,PA] accompanied w/ a small string orchestra for one evening. My late wife & I happily sat 2 rows away from the small 300 seat theater's stage. David if you someday read this comment. I just wish to say thanks for making the long trip East for your legion of Bread fans. Best Regards, Tony DiBello

Between The Beatles and Bread i followed along with their music and learned how to use my voice as an instrument. Now at the age of 66 i still have my singing voice, and its all because of the way he could hit the highs without straining the vocal chords.the results is longevity.
