Today let's look at some pentatonic blues rock licks on guitar. We will use the 5 positions of the C# minor pentatonic as the framework for these blues rock licks. This is an intermediate solo guitar lesson. David Gilmour is a master at saying something with very few notes. And we will play these blues rock licks with that in mind. Playing a small phrase in each pentatonic position and then connecting them will give you confidence to play up and down the fretboard. Here is a link for the 5 positions of the C# minor pentatonic scale. images.app.goo.gl/eCTYDeGqt7Q.... And here is a link for the jam track used in this lesson • Pink Floyd Style Guita... .

While working to get better at guitar later in life, I discovered Rusty a few months ago and have followed him ever since then! Every lesson is a challenge for me, but I have learned more in that time than I learned in all my other lessons and programs going back 50 years! I was a long-time beginner, but Rusty is helping me move beyond that. I admire his playing, and I love the way he presents each lesson. I’m truly grateful that Rusty takes the time and effort to put out such great stuff!

Rusty , you're the man for sure !! I'm 64 years old and have been messing with guitar for over 40 years but still play like an amateur. I've never taken a single lesson and am surely sorry I never got the important stuff behind me. Suffice to say, I have sporadic bursts of " this time I'm going to become a lead player" only to find that self teaching yourself when talent is not on one's list of gifts is bloody frustrating. But only now seeing your lessons have motivated me to " get it right". I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the FREE effort you're putting into your lessons just for idiots like me .. I will be going through each and every lesson of yours this time around . Thanks again and God bless , have a GREAT New Year !!

It’s exciting to see someone getting motivated to learn! The best way to keep that motivation all year long is to have fun while doing it! Really just find your own voice on the guitar! You know what sounds good to your ear, and that’s all that matters! Thanks Ronald and ROCK ON buddy✌️

Wow...Rusty, you certainly have a way of explaining things that I can easily relate to and understand. Little by little the mystery and frustration is being replaced with knowledge and understanding, as well as happiness and big smiles when I pick up my guitar, which I seem to be doing all the time now! I thought that this was all 'rocket science' that would forever escape me, but it's not!! Thanks to you and your passion to help us all I am making solid progress and enjoying my practice. THANK YOU so much :)

Thanks. Great lesson. Are you switching to B minor pentatonic scale when soloing over the B chord? Or did you stay in C minor pentatonic? Why D#? It’s the third of the B chord. Sounds great but please explain how u pick notes to land on besides the root note.
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
Hey Scooby Doo, yes, the D sharp note is the third of the B chord. So landing on that note, when it briefly goes to the B chord, sounds melodic. but definitely not switching scales. The C# minor pentatonic works very well over both chords. And you can make a solo sound great with just that one scale. I only hit the D sharp note a couple times in that improv, but that does break up the sound of the pentatonic scale, also the D sharp note is the only note not in the C# minor pentatonic scale. I know that’s a lot of information but basically you can use the C# minor pentatonic over this back in track and jam for hours. It’s hard for me to stop once I get going. Any more questions don’t hesitate to ask. Thanks for the comment, bro!😎

Can I land on the E? Trying to understand the logic of each landed note Play the 1 of the C#. and 3rd of the B?
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
@@scoobydoo4087 yes on the C-sharp chord, you can land on E! because that’s one of the chord tones. The goal would be to land on one of the notes in the chord as it’s being played. I did briefly show you the notes of each chord in the lesson. But if you play up and down the C-sharp, minor pentatonic scale, you were start to hear those notes. happy jamming bro

Try taking the solo phrases one at a time. Playing them continuously over the backing track. There’s no exact science here. But if you try to do too many at once you won’t sound connected. Thanks so much for checking out the video and happy jamming.👍

First off, amazing lesson. Second, has anyone ever told you that you sound a little like Casey Kasem?

Glad you liked the lesson Andy! That’s a name from the past. Casey Kasem had a voice that was trusted! So I definitely take that as a compliment! Happy New Year Andy ✌️

Thanks Henk! A good way is to start low and go high. Working around the root note of each position. So many ways to do it! Thanks again and enjoy your holiday season 🙏

Hey Mark, no matter what amp I’m using. I said it up clean. And then in this video I’m using the J rocket audio Archer overdrive pedal. Thanks for checking out the video! Catch you later.👍

I kind of get what you're laying down and I pay close attention to you, the frustrating thing is my playing doesn't sound like yours. Little things you're doing I can't figure out.

Hey ML, I really need to do more lessons on technique! Because, knowing the right now, it’s is only the first step! The way you attack, the strings, dictates the mood! And technique separates a beginner from advanced! I will do some of those lessons coming up! I appreciate the comment and have a happy new year🎈

The C sharp minor pentatonic is the same scale as E major pentatonic. ?????

Yes, those two scales share the same notes. C-sharp minor it’s the relative minor of E major. Thanks for checking out the video Doug. Later bro.😎

Uugh, Rusty you are gently but consistently pushing me out of position 1. Of the five, is there a second most useful position that's good to get to?
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 11 ай бұрын
The best way to start using all of the positions is just extend the scale forward or back on the fretboard. Honestly I just used three or four notes of the next position or the previous position. And just add that to your plate not the whole scale. Before you know what you’ll be adding to that and you’ll be playing the positions up and down. Keep working it out Ken🤛
