It is a great episode. thank you guys, you asked questions that I really wanted DHH to answer. Just one little thing, please let the guest finish his talk and come to conclusions, don't interrupt him so often.

I agree with this. I enjoyed the episode, great content, but felt that the interruptions mid sentence/thought were annoying.

Dont agree with DHH on everything, but definitely a great episode. Kudos to Aarthi and Sriram for having him on and letting him explain the pitfalls of VC money and SV culture, DEI, as well as what's actually important to people. Not sure if they'll entertain more contrarian voices like DHH, but if they do, highly suggest Zoho's CEO Sridhar Vembu who has been equally vocal about bootstrapping and building a sustainable business.

For a so called Lifestyle business, Basecamp did 8 mill in 2008 , 25 Mill in 2017, 100 Mill in 2023. 10+ Million / yr for 20+ yrs, thats 100's of millions in 20 yrs. Thats a lot of networth.

At about 32 minutes in she jumps in saying DEI was “not a thing” in India and she came to America and was utterly confused by the movement - as if to imply that she grew up in an egalitarian society. The caste system is still an undercurrent in their society, it only became legal to be gay about 7 years ago (but still cannot marry anywhere in India), and women are still widely treated as second class citizens. Not to mention issues around the disabled, religion and ageism. If any country needs a DEI movement, India could easily make the list. It’s no accident DHH is with these two exemplars of the model minority mindset. People who’ve come after the major civil rights struggles and duck anything looking remotely like boat rocking. DHH is cursed with a compulsion to look around for something new to react against. Whatever seems about to become a mainstream mode of operating, he’s going to be driven to find reasons to cut against it. It isn’t logic, it personality. In the case of Rails it’s been to our benefit (though Rails’ dominance is clearly sinking into irrelevance), but that personality quirk isn’t magic for everything. Just because he’s very rich and very loud doesn’t mean he’s framed things correctly or fairly. It mostly means he desires to stay in a spotlight.

Yes, a person with 0 marks can get into a Math PHD program thanks to his caste. DEI was bolted on into the Constitution of India. Go and touch some grass.
