David Holt and Dr. Bob Hart

Old-Time musician Fiddlin' John Carson recorded "Little Log Cabin in the Lane" in 1923. Many consider this to be the first recorded country music song featuring vocals and lyrics. This song was written in 1871 by Will S. Hays for minstrel musicians. In this video, ethnomusicologist David Holt brings the song to life on the banjo and gives a brief history of the instrument.
