The best part is it's not even auto tune, he just uses layering. Edit: and distortion. For those of you wondering, he did an interview on how he made the song, and shows that it’s not auto tune, he just hyper distorts some of the layers and then adds his normal ones to give it that unique sound found in daylight

I love how David is speaking about the actual struggles of trying to build a relationship with God yk . It’s rare to find a Christian song that dives so deeply into the dark side . I’m glad he made this song , showing that everything isn’t sunshine and rainbows and how people make mistakes , which is okay . Everything about this song is amazing , from his voice , the lyrics , the backstory and everything in between !

ive been struggling with alot of anxiety and stress and as a christian its hard seeing so many people only talking about the mountains and peaks of life being a christian and not many people relating to my story so it was refreshing finally seeing that people do go through struggles even with God on their side. Being a christian isnt easy but i would rather be a christian any day no matter how bad my life gets.

The whole verse is literally about not falling to temptation in a romantic relationship and cheating. Yes he is sorry to God but he's begging god for forgiveness for cheating or at the very least the temptation of cheating. He's an intelligent writer and much like the DEEPEST meaning to most songs, the writer used explanations that are CLOSE but sometimes not always spot on.

I love how David doesn’t just write songs about love like many other artists. I love this song, not only because I’m a Christian, but also because this song hits deep for me. It’s hard to forgive yourself and it’s hard to trust and build your relationship with God. I first listened to this song when I was in a bad mental state. This song really helped me find who I was and it helped me through a hard time. I love David and I’ll never forget him for creating a song that helped me. Crazy that we are both thinking the same thing. I just came back to Christ after 37 years of being away and this song really pulled at my heartstrings. Life's challenges don't just disappear when you become a Christian so I think this song depicts a lot of feelings we have on this journey. Yes, he is totally cute but I'm old enough to be his Mother. you know i am a hindu, and this hits a lot like that. except its the concept of karma that i feel more obliged towards, like am i doing the right thing, is this morally good. battling with addiction and constantly having this guilt of doing the wrong thing, of giving in, of not fulfilling my duties, this song speaks to all of that, and its beautiful.

@@xdranzer0004 Respectfully, you're looking for a reason to taunt their worldview. You're basically saying that if you need to work towards something, like a thriving relationship, it wasn't meant to be. That is complete and utter nonsense, and when taken out of the context of you disliking the thing you're using the argument against, it becomes apparent how shallow that is.
@zoicake

@@xdranzer0004That makes no sense. Every relationship needs relationship building, your friends weren’t grown on trees and given to you like a commercial product from a factory. I can’t even begin to describe His grace and mercy. I will never be the same as I once was because of His glorious works and Holy Spirit. He will change and bless you in ways you couldn’t even imagine! Without Him we will never find peace or fulfillment and will end up suffering for eternity. But with Him we have eternal life and hope, despite the pain of this world. God bless you friend, truly 🫶🏻💕💕

I love that this song is about the inner conflict within the same person.. people know me as the nicest person ever,,, while in fact I am just a people pleaser and I hate myself for that. everyday I ask myself when am I gonna stop?.. When will I put myself first? but then, I've been distant from God so I convinced myself that this is my punishment! "Can you spare any mercy that you might find" is the line I relate to the most.

I’m a proffessional singer, (though I wish I was better at writing music like him) and I just have to say it’s so refreshing to hear such a soulful, richly toned baritone voice especially from someone around my age. (I’m 18, going into college) most of the time young singers such as myself and others aren’t exposed to many “soulful” singers just because we were raised with a very pop like sound, but with your range, and your control, you ABSOLUTELY fit that dark deep tone perfectly, and not many people can pull that off. Hats off to you my guy. I could listen to your voice all day

Though I doubt this comment will receive many upvotes, I feel compelled to share my thoughts in the hope that it may resonate with someone and remind them they are not alone. I recently listened to David explaining the meaning behind his lyrics, and it struck a chord with me as I'm going through a similar experience in my life right now. Today, after the midday prayer at the Mosque, I found myself feeling overwhelmed and alone. Despite facing challenges such as an uncertain test, heartbreak, and family issues, I couldn't help but break down in tears. In that vulnerable moment, I uttered, "today was a good day," even though it wasn't objectively true. However, I followed that with a realization of how grateful I am for the opportunity to be with the people I love and cherish, and the chance to change and improve myself. It was a rare instance of me shedding tears, as I usually try to stay strong and seek solace in God's love to fill the deep and dark void within me. Strangely, I often feel undeserving of any form of love, and I can't fully appreciate it until I prove myself to be worthy. Though I've been down a dark and challenging path, I've always felt the presence of a higher power beside me, never forsaking me. Despite being a social person and well-known at my university, people only see the surface level of who I am. Sometimes, it seems like I can make everyone else happy, but I struggle to find satisfaction within myself. In sharing this, I hope others who may feel similarly will understand that they are not alone in their struggles. We all face battles that might not be visible to others, but it's crucial to remember that we deserve love and compassion, even when we're at our lowest points. Let's strive to be kinder to ourselves and appreciate the journey of growth and change that lies ahead.

@@Mialikesthings people often assume that because someone uses auto tune it means they can’t sing without it which usually isn’t the case. I don’t even get it because the average person doesn’t even notice good auto tune and if you can’t tell and the song sounds good then why trash it for having auto tune? I also doubt 95% of people could sing better than the average popular auto tuned singers. Though I wouldn’t apply what I said to rap since it’s usually lackluster auto tune but rap isn’t about being the best singer anyways, different type of art.

My friend one day sent this song to me and I sat and listened and the shear depth of it hit me. Since the fall of man. We have had the tendency to do evil or to sin. Also known as human nature. And to me, part of this song describes the fight between the side of us that desires to do right and the side that desires to do evil. Like two faces of a person fighting for control. “2 sinners can’t atone for a lone prayer.” Asking God to forgive us, but only one “person” or side wants it. To be honest my words can’t express the spiritual depth that the lyrics of this song hold. It talks about a fight and the fight is real. Thank you!

Man, so good, keep up the good work. this song has a vibe like take me to church. what i take from this song is like being a young guy surrounded by really religious people that are against homosexuality when you have all these feelings and people make you feel like you shouldn't have. that is just my perspective of the song, which is the good thing about art, open to interpretation.

In other words: My church offers no promise, she tells me to worship. I'll be in heaven so long as I'm with the girl I sleep with. I was born a sinner and I love sinning. Does that sound christian? It is a mockery of the Holy Catholic and apostolic Church.
