There's been many Charles Dickens adaptations, but Lean's Oliver Twist and Great Expectations are masterclasses in how to adapt from book to screen. Plus Lean's earlier work like The Sound Barrier and Summertime are remarkable works. You barely here younger and some older generations interested in film talk about Lean. Britain produced some of the best directors during the 1940 and 50s. Lean was a brilliant visualist and probably dyslexic, just like Steven Spielberg. It certainly makes sense why Lean was so visually astute and a great storyteller....

Odd that Bogdanovich never interviewed Lean - or if he did, he didn’t mention him in all the dozens of videos he seems to have made about film directors. Lean was a giant. .

it’s because Lean is an Englishman.

Also he didn't care much for Lean. I think he said somewhere that Lawrence was a terrible film.

Zhivago wasn’t that great, oddly - it’s perplexing how Lean and Bolt could have missed so badly. But Lawrence of Arabia was a masterpiece and Bridge on the River Kwai was absolutely splendid - not least because of the brilliant Alec Guinness.

The greatest movie maker since Charlie Chaplin. David Lean has no peers.

I'd give my heart to David's films, if not for Jesus Christ arriving into my heart ❤ this is not a bad alternative ...his films inspire one to live ...that life is not as dreary, as it appears 😅
