As a Van Halen fan since the late 70s, it’s something that has soured me on the band and their music. I don’t care who is right and who is wrong. They’ve all suffered while they take turns cutting each other. Stop it and make some new music.

@@adrox08 no way, jose! eddie was every bit the genius and artist jimi was, times several times, by virtue of his longevity- and the sheer amount of recording he apparently did, we've not even heard 1% of what he recorded, and if we ever get to hear 1% , that will basically double what's now available right now... yes jimi hendrix was great, and he wanted to live the kind of life that eddie had, for many decades: his own studio, and all time time he needed , at his leisure to lay down tracks, jack! jimi's career was so very short, in terms of bein' able to record, it isn't even fair to compare people anyway, but i guarantee jimi would be the biggest fan of edward that you ever could meet! they were both too dang good for mere mortals to even presume to judge, that's my opinion, anyways~

No way were they the best band ever Lol, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, The Beatles, Fleetwood mac eat them alive! They had a good guitar player and a decent rhythm section but that was it, Jump was the best commercial single they could come up with, c'mon! For a first record it KINDA makes sense. It's a risk for the label. They're laying out all the cash for an unknown artist and want their investment back plus a profit. The balance is absurd. But, the label taking a bigger cut makes a little sense.

This is VERY interesting to watch. FASCINATING. A lot of stuff going on. You can see the very delicate alliance going on here. DLR between two brothers normally joined at the hip, as Sammy would say. One of my first reactions is; whoa! Eddie wants to talk! You watch him trying to get a word in edge-wise, but he's not just competing with DLR, but his brother too! Ed wants to talk, and yea, he NEVER used to open up or show ambition to speak in interviews in the past. This must be a benefit of his sobriety. I wonder if that has confered a difference in his attitude as he's frequently blamed for a comtemptable attitude. Alex wants to talk too. DLR, bless him, turns side to side to make sure they know he's smiling while his mouth races ahead. haha...i think this interview is a perfect display of ginger balance of humongous personalities. Which translates into explosive music.

Davey R Right on Davey R. Very interesting to watch the dynamics going on here. Reading the books on the band and watching some of the documentaries, I've learned to gain a new appreciation for the immense amount of hard work they they all put in to make a go of it. Of course they got screwed in the beginning, most unknowns do, but they did play as many gigs as they could muster up, including backyard bbq's, weddings and so on. Plus, lugging around all that gear, even though they soon enough had a road crew. But the beginning was a lot of hard work.

Maybe he forgot his Claritin on that sniffly, jittery, interview day. The use of "benefit of his sobriety", although in and of itself is neither an announcement of his current state of mind or his state of mind at THAT time... It is a loose one, indeed. I first saw Van Halen 8/15/79 Cleveland Music Hall on their 2nd tour, The "World Vacation Tour" as they named it. Our seats were as far from the band as possible hurting the visual...But nothing was stopping the auditory sensory perception. I had been listening to them since the very first time I played the debut album( wasn't everybody?) but the hard rock they delivered was over-the-top loud as fuck. I subsequently saw them on the next 6 tours, consecutively, and then a show in NC in the 90s and that was enough times for me. But the seats I had in 1982 were 2nd row, right in front of Eddie. I managed to sneak in my Kodak 110 camera and still have the best shots, as most were blurry beyond description. But it was at that show that my hearing was damaged permanently, and a battle-scar because of my need to play shit at 11. It's a shame the bridge with Mike was too severely damaged to allow him to be a part of this, I'm speculating. It's Michael Anthony's vocals that made them better musically. His bass plucking was average and to me sounded like keyboards, I never was a fan of the gear and sound he had. It was all the more magnified during his "solo"...I love bass guitar and really dig hearing a master of the instrument like Bootsy or Entwistle or Geddy or Stu or Wooten. Mike's bass guitar sound in contrast to his incredible vocal range was just ....not so good and was kinda just meh to me. Having said that, he is a vital and crucial part of Van Halen and his absence is a sad one, imho.

Fortunately, they have a great relationship. And it most likely, dramatically helped with Wolfs experience and development. Just listen to his “Mamoth” album. It’s fantastic. This is MY opinion . I thought Dave & Ed were tight . I ALWAYS saw them together when they were backstage or at some public bullshit thing . After Dave left I was puzzled when Ed bitched that they were never close . I'd have to be on Dave's defense by still trying to be Ed's bud not just a band mate . I think it was hard to really be close to Ed . And it isn't because of this Ed's a junkie bullshit Scammy over-bitched about it . They all busted their butts in the music biz from the club days on .

as a VH fan you must have watched the footage when Ed & Alex were Talking about Dave being a prick about eds Hip surgery. He didn't say anything about Micheal & M.A was still in the band till 2004 so it wasn't him. anyway since the 2008 Reunion its been going Good & a Different kind of Truth is a Great CD! so we just need & want another CD from them. a VH DVD the story of Van Halen with them (NOT VH-1 or MTV) talking about everything would also be Great.
