This was fantastic. I started watching Letterman in 91 when I was really too young to be staying up for Late Night, just any chance I could get (usually when my mom was working nights) and watched his show until the day he retired. Was never a Leno guy and was a late starter to Conan. Dave will forever be 'the guy' in late night to me.

I started watching Dave in 1987 when I was 8. Was sick, went to their bed while they were watching Carson. A commercial came on announcing Michael J Fox was on the show following the one I was watching. Loved Back to the Future and occasionally watched Family Ties w the parents. Begged them to stay up to watch Michael J Fox. Late Night was unlike anything I had ever seen. Immediately was puzzled, enthralled and very amused. In the next 28 years I would religiously watch Dave. As a New Yorker got to watch him live a few times, last time was on my birthday in 2015. When not at home I would tape the shows so I never missed one. In college I would record shows when I was partying then watch 3-4 straight episodes on hungover Sunday afternoons. Later in life, no matter what was happening in my life, good, bad, ugly, I could always rely on that hour at 11:35 for all the bullshit going away. He is without a doubt, the GOAT. I left work early on Dave’s last day on air and went to the Ed Sullivan Theater. Just to be around it. After his last show, have never sat in front of the tv and watched a single second of any late night show. Seen clips online but never a full episode. They don’t compare. Never can.

Started watching Letterman's daytime show. We'd skip school, go to our drummer's house, get high and watch Dave, Larry Bud and Brother Theodore and laugh our asses off.

This was a joy. You can hear everyones enthusiasm and nervousness of their hero on stage with them. Very kind story about letting Jason re do his entrance on the show to prevent him from hurting his career from a failed first attempt. Lots of kindness goes on that people don't know about with many people.

I was in the audience at The Ed once when Harrison Ford was a guest. Coming back from commercial, Dave asked him how things were in Montana, and Ford replied with a hilarious comment that would have surely been taken out of context when it aired. Dave did the same kindness for Ford that he did for Jason: re-did the return from the commercial break, asking the same question about Montana. Ford gave an answer like "fine," and the audience roared. Viewers at home had no idea what was so funny.

I appreciate Dave - always watched his series, and still miss the annual Christmas show with the football toss, Darlene Love, and the funniest story ever told (find it on KZbin) - but the genuflecting took up way too much time. It limited the actual interview to less than 30 mins. Come on, guys.

I have a strong feeling this episode isn't going to age well. I've been a comedy, music and film nut since I was a kid in the '70s. I'm older than these 3; but younger than Letterman. The fact that these guys are speaking positively about cancel culture and wokeness is so sad to hear. But it explains exactly why shows like SNL, the late night talk shows and film industry are dying. What I just realized is entertainers live in an echo chamber; a social bubble. They no longer live in the real world. The vast majority of everyday people increasingly consider wokeness and cancel culture to be a load of crap (which it is). And most people are rebelling against it hard. Not only is it shallow in its concept and execution (perfect word); but it is antithetical to creativity and artistry (John Cleese's words not mine). But these people who live in the Hollywood bubble keep convincing each other that wokeness is a necessary "correction" that our society needs. It's obvious the entertainment industry is under the impression the "outside world" is still very racist, xenophobic, homophobic etc. But those of us who live in the real world know those prejudices exist in only the tiniest fraction of individuals today. The hard fact is we live in the most tolerant and diverse society in the history of humanity. But based on their narrative you would think all the profound societal changes that have taken place since the 1960s never actually happened? But what's worse is they don't realize wokeness is actually destroying young people. Remember "sticks and stones may break my bones"? Those are wise words indeed. Wokeness is creating a generation of emotional cripples who have no chance of surviving and thriving in the outside world. Safe spaces on university campuses etc. It doesn't take a genius to understand the profound damage that's already caused. Watching this episode made me realize what's happening in Hollywood; and why it's a dying industry. There are two very different worldviews today. One is reflective of the real world and the other is a deliberately crafted false narrative that comes from all media including Hollywood. Social scientists predicted this has been coming for decades; and warned us how dangerous it is. But I see signs of hope. This was filmed a while ago; and since then I see more and more comedians and social influencers speaking out against this insanity. And very thankfully (for a guy like myself) who came of age with Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Don Rickles, Rodney Dangerfield and Eddie Murphy; there are wise and brave comedians like Dave Chappelle and Sebastian Maniscalco who see what backwards worldviews cancel culture and wokeness truly are.

Speaking of Madison, Wisconsin and of Republican governors and national office, Scott Walker said one must be crazy to put one's family through what they will experience if one runs for president [he was insulting everyone's intelligence by pretending he hadn't already decided to seek the nomination and even added some pandering BS about praying for God's guidance]. When accepting the [foolish] invitation to be McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin put personal ambition above what was best for her family but then had the chutzpah to posture as a good mother and act as though she deserved votes for being the sort of mother she was.

David said cancel culture and woke is good. This from a guy who had a hissy fit when NBC told him he couldn't say pants. He had an affair with an intern and was cruel to many guests. David would have been cancelled early in his career if today's culture was going on in the 80s . It's sad how some people turn on freedom when they are successful and done trying to make it.
