I got collared by Scientologists back when I was a student in Devon! I was sheltering from the rain under an awning of what turned out to be one of their 'shops,' and they invited me in so I could be 'warm ' as well. And then it was "Oh, while you're in here, do you know much about what we do..?" They put me in this room on my own full of bean-bags to sit on, where I watched a video so boring as to be borderline hypnotic. It was about an hour long, and I kept toying with the idea of legging it out of there, but the combination of being slumped in a bean bag instead of a proper chair and watching this snoozeworthy video left me too 'can't-be-arsed' to try. Ans every now and then I was aware of the door opening and a head poking in to check on me and then going back out again and closing the door behind them. When the hour was up, they took me back upstairs and gave me the personality test. It's a multiple-choice thing, not unlike those 'what kind of girlfriend are you?' tests they sometimes have in tweenie girls' magazines. And then they added up my score and shook their heads in despair. Apparently I was such a dysfunctional trainwreck of a person, the only thing that could save me from my own self was joining the Scientologists RIGHT NOW. I asked for a day to think about it, then went home and was thoroughly depressed, with my self-esteem in the toilet, for the rest of that day. But then I woke up next morning and thought "what a bunch of devious tossers," and never went back. Amazing what a good night's sleep and a bacon sarnie can do for a broken soul ;)

Maerahn I wonder if they've ever looked at the test results and gone "well, looks like you're already brilliant. Don't need our religion at all. Have an awesome life. Feel free to use our TV and beanbag chairs anytime for whatever".
@Toontex7 жыл бұрын
melkor: I did the test in french a few years ago.I understood maybe 50% of the questions and of those maybe 50% of the replies offered.I gave the least like me answers to those ,the rest was just tick any box.When my 'results' came through I explained that everything he said was based on bs so it could not be true,apparently I was guided in my replies so the test was valid😀!I do hope my neighbour from the next street but one forgives me for giving their address and I truely hope the phone number was completely false or the local police I wish no harm to anyone with religion or faith but please leave me alone.

The same thing happened to me when I was about 18 and was in Plymouth traveling on holiday. I was invited in to one of their places and, as I had about 4 hours to kill waiting for a bus, I went along. They gave me a booklet to read which was wittering on about how much ones soul weighed and that you could measure the reduction in weight at the moment of death and all sorts of other crap, and then some guy came along to talk to me and was saying stuff complete in contradiction to the content of the booklet and I started to pointing out all the contradictions and getting him all flustered, so he went away and another guy came in. I was starting to enjoy myself at this point and spent a happy half hour ripping this guys nonsense to pieces, at which point, I am very proud to say, three of them came in and they very firmly asked me to leave.

If you then told me that it was a show based, mainly, on them bantering back and forth about famous quotes from history, I'd say "I'm even more in!' Then, if you told me that they had guest panelists, and a guest reader, who also happened to me comedians, I'd say "Shoot me now, it doesn't get any better than this!" *sigh* Unfortunately, the show was shit. In the grand scheme of things Scientology isn't all that weird. I'd say that it's marginally more plausible that there is life in outer space than say a human being parting the fucking ocean or turning one fish and one loaf of bread into billions of fishes and bread.
@ryanbinrichard6 жыл бұрын
Ok, I'm a British Scientologist. I was going to simply enjoy some self-deprecating humour (as we all should) by watching this clip, but it seems that since there are many comments here from people who seemingly despise Scientology / Scientologists, I thought I'd try to settle some things. 1. We are not "supposed to stay away from outside influences", as one person put it. We can watch whatever shows we want, play any games we want, visit any websites we want, etc. 2. Although the recent census was admittedly low for Scientology (which isn't a bad things necessarily in and of itself), this doesn't take into account that Scientology allows other religious beliefs, as well as some people perhaps considering it rather to be a philosophy. 3. Scientologists don't come out of the woodworks to scream and rant on KZbin very often, no. That's because, generally speaking, although we can have rational discussions about our religion, we can take a joke, and respect others' rights to their opinions. I'll end with this - people give Scientology and it's adherents a lot of unfair stick. Have some Scientologists done some unsavoury things? Yes. But has a Scientologist ever bombed a concert in the name of L. Ron Hubbard? No. Has a Scientologist ever asked for the death penalty for homosexuality because it goes against the dynamic of survival? No. Has a Scientologist ever shot, burned, beat, stabbed, ran over, etc. anyone in the name of Scientology to your knowledge? No. So why is my religion getting so much shit, when there are religions out there who do this on a daily basis? There's good and bad in all people, and just because you think our beliefs are 'weird', that doesn't give you the right to try and make us all seem like "mental patients" whose religion should be banned. Human rights anyone?

I was trained as a supervisor when i was 17, as i was born in a scientologist family. Then i went on to work at narconon the same year and that was probably both the hardest and the happiest time of my life. The work hours were borderline abuse, and the rules were extremely strict. And this is in italy, where everything is a bit more lax as i hear it. But we were actually helping people. Yes, narconon is extremely expensive, but it works and i was happy to be part of it. Then i came in contact with some higher ups and i was disgusted. More funds are diverted on division 6 than on infrastructure. We lived like 19th century immigrants, i had to mow the lawn with a BROKEN SCHYTHE. Meanwhile these cunts come, they start talking like they can smell the shit on our clothes, start patronizing everyone, preaching their mindset. Not scientologist stuff, their personal mindest. When you come to rehab you shut up and listen those who have more field experience than you. You don't know how to handle our guys. Everyone was set back on the program by a month just because of the hate they had for those guys, as they started to hate narconon as a whole in turn. And i don't blame them. There are a lot of good people in scientology and narconon, but unfortunately they are not the ones running it. The suits are always the suits. In the end i left when i heard they were evading taxes to pay for larger dormitories. Larger, not better mind you. That wasn't part of my work ethics so i left. Also i might have been getting too friendly with the director's daughter but that's another story. That's it, my two cents. I just thought i'd share them.
@sebastianlacroix58716 жыл бұрын
I guess the aggressive litigation, trying to convert people in the street (no one likes Jehovah's Witnesses, and they have the benefit of being a lot older than you guys) and literally tens of thousands of eye-witness accounts of abuse and brainwashing don't help Scientology's reputation. Also the fact that the founder of your religion is a man who has gone on record as saying that starting a religion is the best way in the world to make money, and was one of the most notoriously awful science fiction authors of all time. I'm not trying to have a go. I haven't said anything you can't find indisputable records of. Tl;dr - Battlefield Earth is trash, Tom Cruise is a kook, and these are your best representatives. The Christians learnt to evangelise properly, and now everyone is cool with them. Take notes.
@ryanbinrichard6 жыл бұрын
Even though you say you're "not trying to have a go", your patronising tone and misleading tl;dr makes that statement hard to believe. Conspiracy theories about Scientology are abundant, as is the persecution of its adherents in places like Germany and Russia. I will reiterate what I said in my original comment - even though some Scientologists do / have done some unsavoury things, that doesn't mean that all Scientologists are out there suing critics or hacking into their computers or abusing people. Also, just an FYI, Scientology offers personality tests (what you probably meant when you compared us to Jehovah's Witnesses and their attempted conversion of people on the streets). That is simply not the same thing as "you MUST believe in our dogma immediately!". If you think that, you're a buffoon.

You follow a religion written by a guy that also wrote chapter after chapter about having a horse dick surgically attached and fucking lesbians straight with it. ....and wonder why it gets mocked. Never mind the following and harassing. You know, churches don't normally follow people around for six plus years taking their photos and mailing them pics of their kids at school, killing your cat, filing false charges, filing lawsuits, blah blah blah just because they have opted to leave. Buts lets see...the 1977 LA Office Raid produced a lot of information on how scientology operates Hubbard himself was arrested on fraud charges Barbour and Kasle charged with sexual molestation Rompa convicted of murder the shumways killed their mother Arthur Solomonyan terroris charges connected to al qaida Gloria Carta, Fraud, extortion and connected some some suicide ....guess I could dredge up a list from somewhere as it goes on and on and on and on.... They don't want to admit that they got duped or that the money they have invested has gone down the drain, and the deeper they get, the bigger the time and money investment it is, and eventually they are fully indoctrinated into the cult. Counter intuitively, realising that you can be manipulated makes you a lot less likely to be manipulated

So, when is David Mitchell and Richard Ayodaoe? ... Ayodoine? ... Ayoade! So when is David Mitchell and Richard Ayoade going to create their own show and just own all of KZbin and the BBC?

So, this was cut from the show? Scared of Scientology? Scientologists are scary as effing hell.

If there is a term that does not come to mind regarding David Mitchell, it's feeble-minded.

It would've been so meta if richard ayoade said that this might be on youtube

I'm a struggling actor in Los Angeles, and I've done commercials for Scientology because they pay really well. For legal reasons, that's all I'm going to say on the matter.

I blinked and missed the bit where they mentioned scientology.

I think the reason WISIS got cancelled was not because of David Mitchell, but those other two goons, I am not saying they aren't good at what they do but the chemistry, is not just right on this show. David could have carried the whole thing himself and just brought on opposing teams with two people each each every week.

that was a crappy youtube segway joke

Funny how this scene plus the scene about Tom Cruise were deleted from the same episode. It's almost like they were being afraid of getting sued.
@brendanbirdfield12844 жыл бұрын
So they deleted the tv clip telling people to check out KZbin and the Internet and then put it on KZbin, well played channel four, well played

I've just realised this show was advertised and I didn't watch it and why did I not do that? Ah well! the joy is mine now...
@philwill01233 жыл бұрын
Yep, just by Goodge Street Station. I did it for a laugh. Turns out they tell everyone they fail the test afterwards, so they can flog the dianetics books.
