David Monongye - traditional Hopi religious elder - Hopi Prophecy - early 1970s

David Monongye was a Hopi elder and leader (Kikmongwi of Hotevilla). Son of Yukiuma, keeper of the Fire Clan tablets, who founded Hotevilla in 1906. He is one of four Hopis (including Thomas Banyacya, Dan Evehema, and Dan Katchongva) who decided or were appointed to reveal Hopi traditional wisdom and teachings, including the Hopi prophecies for the future, to the general public in 1946, after the use of the first two nuclear weapons on Japan.
In 1972, Monongye and three other Hopi elders participated in the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. Monongye was a co-author of Techqua Ikachi, the traditional Hopi newsletters produced from 1975 to 1986.

It's important to hear him say that the prophecies can take a long time to tell. This is a very informal sort of introduction; much more can be said. The "Book Of The Hopi," by Frank Waters, is highly recommended. The ancestors of the Hopi were here long ago, and there is much wisdom in their teachings. When the whites came, they disregarded all of the laws of this land. We are now seeing the price to be paid.
