If "gentleman" includes male members of the royal family, that doesn't seem like much of a compliment. In fact, the English class system with its weird distinction between knights and everyone else makes me quite happy I live in a country other than the U.K.. Another gentleman of old Hollywood was Basil Rathbone. Although often cast as a villain, or as the world's favorite Sherlock Holmes, his autobiography reveals a truly gentle, kind-hearted man. Rathbone's autobiography is somewhat unique, it tells us all about Hollywood's personalities & lifestyle of the Golden Age, yet he has nothing but good to say about anyone, no back-stabbing, rumor-mongering, or skull-duggery, which, unfortunately, has become a staple of many movie stars' autobiographies.
