Video Description:
David Pakman recently discussed the troubling state of literacy in the U.S., connecting low literacy rates to political decision-making and the rise of figures like Donald Trump. But while his analysis raises valid points, his tone has sparked backlash for being overly condescending.
In this video, we dive into the substance of Pakman's argument, explore the relationship between education, policy understanding, and voting behavior, and ask whether his delivery undermines his message. Is Pakman right, even if his tone turns people off? Let’s break it down!
📌 Topics Covered:
U.S. literacy rates and their impact on democracy
How misinformation thrives in low-literacy environments
David Pakman’s approach: Effective or alienating?

As someone who has tried to bridge sides in reasonable and kind ways since everyone in my life is conservative, it is impossible. Literally conservatives live in a different reality, evidence and reason are meaningless to them. People can be shamed and some will be improved through that, the ones that won't take it constructively weren't ever going to learn a single thing.

@@RickMiller-m5q Don't be absurd. One of the greatest tools man has is his ability to predict the future, whether it's a scientific or mathematical prediction or a political prediction. And certainly Pakman has failed in that arena. Only days before the 2024 presidential election he was touting a Harris win, along with a Trump challenge to the results -- and of course in true Pakman style he was humiliatingly wrong. Unfortunately many actually believed him and other leftist propagandists, which led to shock and hysteria after Trump won.

How do I prevent my absolute contempt and disgust of these people from not just showing, but ruining my every waking moment? I tend to consider myself a fairly understanding person, but when I speak to or hear these people speak I am genuinely baffled by their level of ignorance. I thought I grew out of my solipsism & misanthrope phase but over the past few years it is swelling back up again, and stronger than before. I understand that not everyone can know everything, especially about politics, but this isn't about knowledge, this is about _fundamental_ foundational logical framework. I legitimately feel like so many of these people are actual philosophical zombies; NPC's. If you cannot take the time to learn what tariff is, or research the political candidate you're voting for, how do you dress yourself in the morning? Like I'm genuinely asking... How do these people file their taxes? How do they literally do anything at all. How are these people just bumbling through life?

While I agree they're stupid, I think you're fundementally misunderstanding the issue. They don't care about the tariffs, or the egg prices. Just like they never care about: - Family values, after Stormy Daniels revealed he cheated with his 4-month-pregnant 3rd wife - Law and order, after he became a convicted criminal - Freedom and democracy, after Trump lost the popular vote - Age, after Trump became the literal oldest president in US history They lied to you, from day one. Something something Sartre, something something _never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies...,_ and then, something something.

The anti-intellectualism in the US is bad, worse than our school system imo. I do think liberals should stop calling people "dumb" or acting super hateful towards people with an ignorant opinion, though, without hearing their side of things. If you call a person who is ignorant ignorant, it's like when you call a drunk person drunk. It matters not that all you have done is correctly identify that person's condition, they get angry about the fact that you have called them ignorant or drunk. It stands to reason that the systematic de-funding of education while certain portions of the media demonize those who are educated, you have a mob of those who can't speak intelligently about politics, let alone science or history, there will be an ever increasing trend toward politicians with flashy presentation who speak on their level of understanding and knowledge.

@Zach-qs2bw Ай бұрын
interesting comment i agree that different cultures speak different languages and being aware of other peoples cultural language is important but i dont believe David was making a statement about communication he was making a statement about the complexity of inner thoughts which is a separate function of language the words we use in our heads to understand things are different from the ones we'd use when communicating data to each other especially to the average person because some words dont have much utility outside of a narrow or niche topic and most people dont have the knowledge base to make sense of the info without lots of other specific ideas acting as a foundation to support there understanding david isnt saying conservatives cant read a book or talk hes saying they lack a lot of specific words that give you the ability to build more complex ideas you need specialized knowledge to build these ideas and conservatives lack these tools so there ability to engage is more limited to give you an idea a liberal uses the computer to do his report they use grammar correcting software and organizational templates and other office software they edit any mistakes and hit send few if any mistakes slip through its more concise and easier to read but looks boring a conservative uses there landline to order supplies waits for delivery starts his report cant find a pen anywhere buys some at the store gets to work makes a mistake starts over and repeat till he eventually finishes some mistakes slip through looks charmingly hand made
