He’s 52 here and recording it at his farm in Tennessee. I’ve seen him in concert recently 3xs, he is extraordinary.

More David. The best tenor on the planet needs some attention. Thanks, guys. I had fun.

David does his own arrangements and always finds a way to make it his own without losing the original message of the song. The highest note in this performance is D5, I believe 1 step higher than Whitney’s. Whitney was in a class by herself and will always be loved and admired.

My favorite male singer of all time. Many you should react to: Oh Holy Night (the one with the GVB Christmas where he's wearing a green sweater), Ghost Town from his Freedom album, No More Night, We Shall Behold Him, and too many more to count!

Yeah, David is one of the greatest male vocalists of all time. Great reaction! First time I heard him do this song at a concert, he just walked out after intermission and just CRUSHED it like it was nothing. Hope to see you guys do more from him.

Stunning! Simply a cello, a piano, and David Phelps! Whitney had a full orchestra, as I recall and, yes, she was amazing! Phelps cut this at his house during a pandemic! I have no words. You guys reacting is quasi-serious, studied, and so much fun! Please, more Phelps reactions: Hello Beautiful, I remember What We Thought Love Was, and Song for Sinners. Also, so many new selections: Dead Man Rising, Bridge Over Troubled Water, etc.

Give his daughter, Maggie Beth Phelps a listen. Especially her song, "He's Still My Child". David wrote it years ago and put it away, not realizing that it would one day be his own daughter that was absolutely perfect for the song!
@aliciaharris3868 ай бұрын
He’s Still my child is wonderful and has a great backstory for sure! However, I feel people overlook Maggie Beth’s performances on songs like Agnus Dei, Gesu Bambino and even His Eye Is On The Sparrow. Each are equally noteworthy, beautiful and highlight her beautiful soprano voice perfectly.

i thought Gabriel Henrique had the best cover of this song but with all artistic disciplines there are levels to greatness. This is that next level. This is the best cover of this song I have heard. Trying to cover Whitney is no easy task. The powerful perfection from David Phelps is a wonderful addendum to this song. Noy surprised really. This guy also has hands down the best version of "oh Holy Night". When you consider the legends who have also tackled that song - Mariah Carey, Celine, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Christina, Charlotte Church, Josh Groban. Davids version is just better. Check it out.

No one so far as ever beaten Whitney Houston’s version. But this was very good. If think Adam Lambert would knock it out of the park. I think he’s one the best male singers I have EVER heard. Check out him singing “ I Believe” a Cher song he performed at the 41st Annual Kennedy Center honors. He was on American Idol. He didn’t win but he should have and everyone knew it. He became the lead singer of the group Queen after the lead singer died. He sung any genre they gave them perfectly. There has NEVER another on American Idol anywhere with that kind voice and range.

Listen guys this performance was on par with Whitney. And David is every bit as talented as she was, probably more. Yes it is mist definitely Whitney's song but he sang a good match for her.

How do we pay for a reaction
@stephanieellis53998 ай бұрын
I know it's just a turn of phrase. I do. But I don't like it when people say "nobody's better than so-and-so at such-and-such". Whitney was amazing when she sang live. No argument. But people have said the same about David Phelps. They've said the same about singers from around the world in various styles and genres...probably since people began singing professionally (maybe before that). But the thing is, there are hundreds of artists you've never heard. Neither have I. And if/when we hear them we may find out that, for example, they blow Whitney out of the water, when it comes to singing live. It's unlikely that it would be that dramatic, but you get my drift. And I know that the reply will most likely be "it's implied" when people say this. But I'd like to argue that many people on KZbin, on the intetnet, are not native English speakers and things that are "implied" to native speakers are not always understood to be implied. Not only that, but there are many neurodivert people (autism, ADHD) for whom "implied" meanings are very difficult to assess. I guess, I just prefer it when people say "I've never heard a better live performer than Whitney Houston". Not only does it do what I've mentioned above, but even the phrase "nobody's better" is an opinion but doesn't really allow for discussion or a difference of opinion. Whereas "I've never heard anyone better" allows for someone to say, without contradicting, that their favourite, or the best they've heard is someone else.
