The Admiral was awesome! Played for Naval Academy, served couple years in the Navy, then came into the NBA. He was 7’ tall. Also, if you ever watched a Spurs game when the National Anthem played he always stood at attention. Oh yeah he helped the Spurs win 2 NBA championships and played for the USA Olympic team winning gold twice. Salute Mr. Robinson!

Idk why people talk about Duncan so much, maybe because 5 championships, but these top 10 are far more impressive than Duncan's. Plus he's a great shooter, I remember him very well, I used to watch a lot of basketball in the 90's
@darshloaf
@darshloaf 11 ай бұрын
David was amazing, & had a lot more athleticism than Duncan. What separated Duncan was the low post game--both the famous footwork & his pinpoint passing from the post. He dominated a lot differently than Robinson, was quicker than he looked, & often saved his best games for the playoffs. Look at highlights of his 1st playoff game in Phoenix--he just took over & won the game while David was still there & an all-star. I think Robinson would've won a title or 2 w/o Tim mid-90s if he had a better #2 than Elliott (who was good but more of a #3 on a championship team).
@sgshumblecrumb6046
@sgshumblecrumb6046 4 ай бұрын
Robinson was probably the more physically gifted and individually dominant player. Tim Duncan was known as the "big fundamental." He was so consistent and precise that he didn't need to be the most naturally gifted, though he was a good athlete too in his own right. It's an interesting question to ask how Robinson might've done if he had coach Pop, Manu and Tony for most of his career. Rings, longevity, and consistency are the main reasons why Duncan gets more acknowledgement. He also played more recently so his greatness lingers in people's minds more easily. Robinson also played in a tougher era for big men I think, not that Duncan didn't have tough opponents, but Olajuwon, Ewing, young Shaq, Alonzo Mourning, and also just having Jordan's Bulls winning all the rings in the 90s made Robinson more overshadowed
@quietus13
@quietus13 Ай бұрын
Robinson's peak was higher but shorter, Duncan was a slow burn that was just deadly consistent. Robinson's career was cut short on the front side because unlike most NBA stars he did a full 4 years of college (as did Duncan), and additionally served 2 years in the Navy. Then later in his career when he still should have had several solid years left he had a major back injury that he never really fully recovered from, kind of like Larry Bird. Robinson's best few years he would have eclipsed Duncan, but Duncan had far longer longevity and consistency.

First play already captures the unique ability of David Robinson. He is a 7ft center who can dribble end to end like a guard. No other center during his time could do that, let alone be as deadly effective as he is. Now we have Wemby and Chet doing those things, but D-Rob started it all.

So people not talking about how he dunked and blocked Hakeem but they focused on one MVP season game being outperformed by Hakeem from only one game? People I tell ya. Much respect to the Great Admiral
@JudgementDay829
@JudgementDay829 11 ай бұрын
Ok, we’ll talk about it. They have both blocked and dunked on each other. Hakeem didn’t only outplay him in one game. He out played him all series long for the western conference title. The problem with Robinson is he shriveled up when it counted the most and you can’t do that being the best player on your team. Spurs fans wanna make excuses for Robinson about being doubled and tripled team when they did the same with Olajuwon who was still making shots while being doubled or defended one on one.he knew when to kick it to the open three point shooters who made the defense pay. The biggest difference to me between these two great centers is Robinson didn’t have much of a post game compared to Olajuwon and didn’t have a consistent turnaround jumper like dream had. When Robinson did post up he would either play make or slash to the basket. With the exception of scoring in transition, which Robinson did better, Olajuwon was more skilled offensively and even on defense he was arguably better.
@TheSub-SaharanAmericanLegend
@TheSub-SaharanAmericanLegend 11 ай бұрын
@JudgementDay829 understood. Even great players do get outperformed or had some flaws at times, but it doesn't take away their greatness to the game. Robinson deserved much praise and respect as much Hakeem & Shaq because they all battled each other at the high competitive level that made who they are that we all known them to be.
@JudgementDay829
@JudgementDay829 11 ай бұрын
@@TheSub-SaharanAmericanLegend if you saw my original response to you, you’ll see I called both centers great, but with that playoff performance dream gave vs Robinson, it showed he could take it to another level. That performance elevated him to a greater status than the Admiral.

Same shit like people claiming all the time that Hakeem "destroyed" Shaq in the Finals. Shaq shot 60% from the field scoring only 3 ppg less despite that Hakeem took 40 more shots in these Finals shooting below 50% FG. Shaq upped his output for the Finals while Hakeems averages dropped. Nick Anderson as a 85% free throw shooter missed 4 consecutive FTs in crunch time of Game 1. These narratives always... (CORRECTION: Nick Anderson was never such a good FT shooter, I messed this up in my original post)
