David Sylvian and Holger Czukay - Plight (The spiralling of winter ghosts)

Plight & Premonition is the first of two collaborations between David Sylvian and Holger Czukay. The music is ambient, makes use of 'found sounds'. It consists of two instrumental tracks, both of which are over 15 minutes long.

Bought this at the legendary Aron's Records on Highland in LA in the very early 90s, along with Sylvian & Czukay's other masterpiece, Flux & Mutability. These two albums [along with David Parsons' Himalaya] are my all-time favorite examples of so-called "new age" or [preferably] ambient music. They possess a textural quality unrivalled by anything else I've ever come across. They are melodic without being music; they have form, but not structure. Thirty-two years on, they retain every bit as much mystery as the time I first heard them. Light a candle, pour some wind, grab a copy of Poe or Lovecraft, throw on Plight & Premonition - and enjoy!

Along with Flux and Mutability I have enjoyed this music since it was released. As a youth I was transfixed in the music and as an adult using/and enjoying it as an accompaniment to work. It's so great for deep focus for pleasure or work. Love it.

Well, if you like this, then David Sylvian's 'Approaching Silence' album (music he made for a couple Japanese art installations) should also be of interest...Brilliant Trees is flawless and agree with just how good Gone to Earth is, some wonderful musicians on that project..in fact, there's not much you can go wrong with in Sylvian's catalogue..however, his later works may prove slightly more challenging...a wonderful musician, artist, composer, even poet..all can be applied...oh, and don't forget the sublime vocals.
