One time this American couple came in front of my in the 5 items or fewer lane with a huge cartful of groceries. I thought they'd be asked to move lanes, but the cashier just scanned everything while I just stood there with my warm bottle of soda and melted choc ice. i think it's tough because it was his first appearance on the show, and thus it took a little while for him to get into the chemistry and rhythm that everyone else has already been doing for five years now. same thing happened with john hodgman in ep. 2 - he was fairly invisible for the whole episode (or at least what was broadcast). tough for the rookie.
