1 corinthians 1 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 18 For The preaching of the cross is to them that parish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. Salvation gospel 1 corinthians 15 1-4 👑KJV✝️ 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures; Know 100% that you’re going to heaven! 1 John 5 13 ✝️♥️🩸

In response to the negative comments about David Wilkerson: "Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is one lawgiver who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another? "--James 4:11-12

Deeply disappointed with David Wilkerson. Did not expect this from David Wilkerson whom I heard gladly all these days until this sermon. His preaching from 51:28 to End, is complete contradiction to what he was preaching from the start until that point. It is more shocking to hear him speak in an unknown tongue without interpretation at 53:24 and creating chaos among his congregation by intensely misleading his congregation to speak in unknown tongue all at once. Feel sad to see this happening with David Wilkerson. Let us search the scripture for what exactly the Word of God in the New Testament commands about speaking in tongues and about its regulations? 1 Corinthians 14:2: For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. First, the above verse plainly reveals that an unknown tongue really exists which the Holy Spirit speaks through a disciple of Lord Jesus Christ IF NEEDED. Next, let us search the scripture for when and why does a disciple of Lord Jesus Christ speaks in this unknown tongue; 1 Corinthians 14:4: He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. From the above verse we should understand that speaking in unknown tongue is to EDIFY ONESELF. Should someone who has this gift speak in public congregation or private? Let us see the following verses; 1 Corinthians 14:27-28: If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. The above verse makes it very clear that If someone genuinely NEED to speak in an unknown tongue in a congregation of disciples, then it should be done by 2 or at most 3 people only, and with 1 interpreter. If there is no interpreter present, the Word clearly commands to KEEP SILENT and to speak to himself to God. The later is a silent prayer in the mind. Comparing David Wilkerson's acts from 53:24 onward is a clear deviation to the Word of God in the new testament. Why? Because, apart from contradicting the above quoted verses, the Word of God also commands; 1 Corinthians 14:39-40: Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order. Yes, forbid not to speak with tongues, NOTE: by at most 2 or 3 with an interpreter for the purpose of edifying the congregation of disciples. But it should be done DECENTLY and in ORDER. The latter was completely missing in the David Wilkerson's sermon. Because he made everyone to speak in unknown tongue (genuine or not I do not know) and leading the congregation to indecent, out-of-order and chaotic atmosphere, which is strictly forbidden in the Word of God. I want to conclude with the following 2 verses. Thanks. To the honest disciples of Lord Jesus Christ: Psalm 25:5: Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. To self-righteous people: 1 Corinthians 14:38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

I have no idea what you are talking about. All I had originally commented on was when you were talking about the HS not dwelling in buildings. I only thought that you read the comment wrong. I only said that an assembly doesn't have to gather in a building. A church doesn't have to gather in a building. An assembly could be a gathering outside, with everyone having the HS inside of them. That's all, you're reading too much into this. Stop accusing me of...well...whatever is you think I'm doing. Take care, Daniel.

Have You Been Born Again? A Jewish religious leader named Nicodemus once visited Jesus. Like many people, Nicodemus expected that his good life would earn him a home in Heaven when he died. Imagine how he felt when Jesus said to him, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). Jesus explained to Nicodemus that the new birth is a spiritual change that can only be brought about by God. The moment a lost sinner repents of his sins and trusts Jesus as the only one who can save him from the eternal judgment of his sins, he is born again. God gives him a spiritual nature through which he can understand and enjoy the things of God: that person is spiritually born into God’s family! What Jesus told Nicodemus 2,000 years ago is just as true today. We may try to live a good life, go to church or engage in other commendable activities, but we still must be “born again” in order to be a member of God’s family. Have you been born again? This is life’s most important question, because your answer will affect all of your eternity. How Can You Know? How can you know that you have been born again? The Bible lists six characteristics in the book of 1 John. These are not requirements in order to be born again, but life changes that show God is at work in your life. They are the evidence that you have truly been born spiritually into a new, life-changing relationship with God! Believing in Christ First: “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God” (1 John 5:1). Someone who is born again believes that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. That He is the One sent by God the Father to pay the penalty for man’s sin by His death on the Cross. His resurrection from the dead on the third day is proof that He is able to forgive us and bring us into fellowship with the Father. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by Me” (John 14:6). A born-again Christian does not merely know the facts about Jesus Christ, but he has entrusted his life to Him as Savior. The child of God does not depend on his church, his good deeds or his pastor to bring him eternal life. The Bible says, “For as many as received Him [Jesus Christ], to them gave He power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:12). Practicing Righteousness Second: “Everyone that doeth righteousness is born of Him” (1 John 2:29). Christ is the Christian's example as well as his Savior. Jesus told His disciples, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” and “you are My friends, if you do whatever I command you” (John 14:15, 15:14). The true Christian lives to please his heavenly Father and tries to avoid those things God hates. Loving Other Christians Third: “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren” (1 John 3:14). Like Jesus, the child of God loves even his enemies; but he has a special love for those who are fellow believers. They may be different from him in race, personality, and culture, but they are all members of the same family. “This is the message that ye have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another” (1 John 3:11). Overcoming the World Fourth, “Whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world” (1 John 5:4). Someone who is born again does not follow the world’s ever-changing standard of right and wrong. He does not mind opposing the world's ways, because he seeks God’s praise more than man’s and fears offending God more than offending man. Not Habitual Sinning Fifth: “No one born of God makes a practice of sinning” (1 John 3:9). The true Christian does not habitually sin, because he wants to please God. Although he is far from perfect, he knows that “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). If he does sin, he can confess it directly to God and “the Lord is faithful and just to forgive” (1 John 1:9). Keeping Oneself Pure Sixth, “He that is begotten of God keepeth himself” (1 John 5:18). A person who is born again tries not only to avoid sin, but also to avoid anything that may lead to it. He is like a soldier in enemy territory continually on guard. He knows he can’t keep temptation from coming, but by knowing God’s Word and through prayer he can resist it. The Test These are the six essential marks of a born-again Christian. Each of these traits may not be equally obvious in your life. But if you are born again, God is developing these traits in you. Are you born again? If you have never been born again or you are not sure, you can be sure right now. Pray right now, asking God to forgive your sins, and believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior. Jesus said, “He that...believeth on Him that sent Me hath everlasting life” (John 5:24). “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). -J. C. Ryle

There is a small church that lives by the scripture of speaking in tongues as evidence and that it is another seperate experience with God other than wonderful Salvation and water baptism. I am 21 years old and saved since I was 12. But its this year that I was babtised by the Holy ghost and 4 other members. Refugio de Los Siglos is my church. Small in local number, because people refuse to accept this truth and so they flee this power. Wonder working power.

The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues" 1 cor 12:30 "30 All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? " how are you gonna sit here and teach something contrary to what Paul taught smh

I would be careful if I was a naysayer to all of this. The reason...... it happened to me. One thing as a believer that we must understand, God will not give you something if you don't want it.And believe me it is in His hearts desire to Baptize you in The Holy Ghost. I will not go into detail what he has done through me since He blessed me with this gift, however a lot of things are nothing short of miracles.

If you dwell in love God will dwell in you. Not the love of the world that is carnal through feelings and emotions of the flesh. To love God is to obey His commandments. It is to love as He has loved you. It is not that we loved God but that He loved us first. If you do not receive this love first you will not be given sight to see the truth. Jesus is the way, truth, and life. No one comes unto the Father but through Him. Do not look at yourself, deny yourself, and look to Jesus only. pick up your cross, the burdens to love as He loved us, bearing one another;s burdens, and then follow Jesus.

If you want to be filled with the Holy Spirit, confess any sins you have, especially habitual ones. You don't have to wait until you stop doing them but you need a strong desire to stop for Him. Then simply ask Jesus to fill you up with His Holy Spirit. Tell Jesus, " I want ALL that You have for me. I want to be filled from the top of my head to the tip of my feet. I want to worship you in Spirit and in truth. I want to pray for the Saints in the Spirit. Please Lord, please fill me now! Do this every night with all sincerity until you get it. He will know if you truly mean it. Or, you can get a Spirit-filled friend/pastor to lay hands on you and pray with you to receive Him. You may get it sooner that way. God bless you. Study "Acts" to fully understand this amazing gift.

@@Jesusbride515 We receive the Holy Spirit as a result of being baptized in the Holy Spirit. No where in the book of Acts do we have instances where a believer recieved the Holy Spirit and was baptized in the Holy Spirit later. A lot of the confusion among believers is because of a lack of understanding of what the Word " believe" means in the N.T.s original language Koine Greek. When we hear the Word of God and receive it into our hearts we believe( noun). It is acting on that Word, repentance, water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ and praying to receive the Holy Spirit until God gives us our request that is " believe"( verb) that saved us as a result of being born again.

Speaking in tongues, the biblical way is absolutely perfect! The thing is, I, myself, have never ever witnessed that in any Pentecostal/evangelical churches. Never, and I've been to a lot of them... Lets not fool ourselves, especially God!!! Most of these churches let the people (newcomers...) know in so many words that "speaking in tongues is a must." When it is NOT. It would be nice if it was done according to the Word of God. Then, the newcomer thinks that there is something wrong with them, think God doesn't love them because they can't speak in tongues like everyone else. More than often, they leave the church with a feeling of inadequacy. That's a reality I've witnessed too many times. Speaking in tongues is not done by babbling syllables over and over and over. When the whole church does it at the same time. When everyone babbles and no one understand, what do you call that? .I call that chaotic and a shame to the gift. How does that help to edify the church, members, visitors? It does NOT edify anyone. Praying in tongue is done ONLY to edify. Say I go to church and an Italian couple is visiting and they don't speak English. The Holy Spirit would give me or someone else the gift to speak Italian for them or interpreting. Doing that edifies the church. In 1 Cor 14 for it is well described. God Bless You all.

Hi Weezie, David describes the biblical salvation message here for all beleivers, based on ACTS 2: Repentance, Baptism by water, receiving the gift (dorea in Greek, meaning a free gift, out of gratitude) of the HG. This is the the same HG as MARK 16:16 telling us that if you are a believer you shall speak in tongues. So that's indeed done mainly in "your closet" but it's clear from the Bible that this is set for all believers. So this was all for the individual believers. In the letters to the church in Corinth, Paul is teaching about life in the church, the running of the assembly, not the individual personal relation with the HG. 1 COR 14 speaks about the Charisma gifts of the HG, a tool indeed for edifying. in verse 1 COR 1:7 it explains this as a sort of religious qualification and by the time you arrive at the 9 gifts you should already understand that this is explaining us how to conduct in the church not the personal relation with the HG. Note that Paul does not teach anymore about repentance and baptism here anymore because these Corinthians have already had this ACTS 2 experience:) So ACTS 2 and 1 COR 14 are two separate pieces of teaching.

Marty, I fail to understand your point since I never denied the gift. In reality, if you take out 3 denominations, Charismatics, Pentecostals and Evangelicals, the gift of "tongues" is practically non-existent if existent at all. The point I was trying to make is, the way it is used, is NOT biblical. Babbling is NOT speaking anything. If something, it would be satanic. The gift of "tongues" IS the gift of '"SPEAKING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE" That's exactly what happened in the book of Acts. It was needed for that occasion for that purpose. "I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying." 1 Cor 14:51." If no one understands what is said or no one can translate, who does it benefit? Who does it edify? It's the last gift on the list probably because the other ones are more needed??? BTW, the fruits and the gifts of the Holy Spirit doesn't happen in a precise order for everyone. Some are baptized of water and are not even born again. Some receive the Holy Spirit before being baptized of water.

Thank you for your answer, Weezie. You wrote that speaking in tongues is not a must, but how do you explain MARK 16:16 (And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues), ACTS 19:1-6 (Paul teaches that believers must receive the Holy Ghost, evidenced by speaking in tongues), JUDE 20 (praying in the Holy Ghost), and JOHN 4:23-24 (the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit) then? You see, you are watering down the gospel, and therefore I lovingly warn you. Whoever thought you this, needs to look at the scripture again, and I humbly urge you to ask God as well to reveal these scriptures to you too. I agree that babbling in tongues or randomly uttering syllables is not praying in tongues, and I'm sorry to hear that you have had bad experiences. In our church there is order in the meetings. No one just starts speaking in tongues:) That's why I tried to explain that there are two different gifts, though from one Spirit; and a little understanding of Greek is helpful to understand this. The "dorea" gift is part of your salvation and is a must, the other is the "charisma" gift and is indeed part of the nine gifts (There may be people who never receive all the nine gifts - I certainly have not receive the The Word of Knowledge, or the working of miracles, yet). In both cases you receive a new language. Paul clearly explains the importance of prayer in the spirit in the beginning of 1 COR 14, and then continues in verse 19 with YET, in the church, etc. etc. As a matter of fact my tongue for operating the gift of tongues in the meeting (1 COR 14:26) is different from my prayer language (1 COR 14:2). I was a educated atheist but once God convicted me of sin, righteousness and judgment he brought me to a loving assembly, where I was still skeptic at first. God was working in my heart and after I repented of my sins, there was even a stronger conviction to be baptised and to receive the Holy Spirit, as Jesus Himself describes in JOHN 3. Only after this happened I had peace and knew what it meant: "Christ in you the hope of glory" (COL 1:27). Every day I make sure I have some private time with God where I speak to him in my own language and definitely I also pray in tongues. This is of course different than in the meetings. Sometimes in the meeting, we collectively worship God in the Spirit, for a few minutes but this is only done in a orderly fashion (e.g. when announced by the leading person) and if there are newcomers someone will explain this to them, just like they will be explained 1 COR 14:26-29, in case we operate the spiritual gifts. Hope this helps - it is written with the best of intentions:) I actually prayed with godly fear that I may write this according to COL 1:28. Yours in Christ, Marty

So what shall you say then: is it okay if I don't give up all? LUKE 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. 1 CORINTHIANS 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. LUKE 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate [Greek: "to love less"] not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. I can yell you one thing, when I received the Holy Ghost with the sign of speaking in tongues, I was set free of my bondage, felt clean for the first time in my life, and oh, the joy that filled me, it was amazing. EPHESIANS 3:19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Might add that there was an intense time of repentance and turning towards God, some 24 hours before this happened. The conviction was so strong that for the first time in my life I could cry again. LUKE 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

I believe one is supposed to be baptised when they have knowledge of the word of God,when one is mature enough to understand what God's word says. I have heard of eight year olds getting baptised and being filled with the Holy Spirit which is amazing and a blessing. If you were baptised as a child and maybe did not have an understanding of what was going on, you can get baptised again now that you understand God's word better than when you were a child.

Salvation prayer If The Holy Spirit is convicting you to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour of your life, repeat this prayer with your mouth and believe it in your heart. Dear Father, I come to You today, in reverence before You. I recognize that Jesus Christ is Your Only Begotten Son. I know that He died on a cross and He payed the penalty for the sins that I commited. I well deserve punishment. I know that He came back to life and is alive forevermore. I ask You Lord to come into my heart. Lord Jesus, search me. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit to teach me things and to tell me what’s right and wrong. Jesus, You are my Lord and my Saviour, all the days of my life. You are The One True God, and forever You will reign! Father, I repent of my sins. Help me to turn away from them. Renew my mind and renew my heart. I want to serve you all the days of my life and I put away any other god. Jesus, you are the way the truth and the life. In Jesus’s name I ask all this, amen. Friends, you have now become a Believer!!! Follow Jesus with a sincere heart. Give him all the love he deserves. Jesus wants a relationship with you. “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:13-19‬ ‭KJV‬‬ www.bible.com/1/1pe.1.13-19.kjv It’s not just about saying a prayer, it’s feeling a deep conviction for sin. You can’t use the free grace that Jesus has given you as a license to sin. ‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬, What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? The angels in Heaven are rejoicing with you!!! Live a life pleasing unto The Lord. Read The Bible, and God will tell you what to do. The Holy Spirit will guide you. Jesus Christ is coming soon, my brothers and sisters! The rapture will happen soon, be prepared!!! You can’t be baptized as a baby and go to heaven. The scriptures that I sent before teach otherwise.

In the O.T. The prophets had the Holy Spirit come upon them and fill them but then depart for a season. Being baptized in the Holy Spirit was not available by God to man yet. Then the new birth became available to man beginning in Acts ch.2 on the day of Pentecost. Now man could be born again and have the Holy Spirit permanently indwelling them. In the book of Acts there are three instances of believers Recieving the Holy Spirit. No where do we find believers Recieving the Holy Spirit and being baptized in the Holy Spirit at another time. Being baptized in the Holy Spirit is how a believer recieved the Holy Spirit. What changes a filling into a Spirit baptism is surrendering out tongue, the body's most unruly member , to the Spirit. When the Holy Spirit takes control of the believers tongue that begins the Spirit overflow and is confirmed by the supernatural " sign" ( Mark 16:16)of speaking in the " unknown tongue" that Paul refers to in 1Cor.14:2.

I cringe when someone says "Holy Ghost." The 3rd person of the Trinity isn't a "ghost." I'm Pentecostal and as a general group we think we are one up on other Christians who don't practice the gifts of the Spirit. You are no less a Christian if you don't have the baptism and I believe many Pentecostal don't bother with 1 Corinthians 13:1 because we are so hung up on the gifts of the Spirit.

Frank, the English language is basically a conglomerate language with two principle fountains: Romance and Germanic. The Romance - Latin through French. Latin 'spiritus', French 'esprit' hence the English 'spirit'. The Saxon/Germanic 'geist' hence the English 'ghost'. They are basically just equivalent words thats all - ie whether you say 'spirit' or 'ghost' you're saying the same thing! Your problem is merely the cultural associations you have made with each word - note, you have made.

shamar Most people, like myself, know a "ghost" is commonly associated with someone who has passed on. In this present age we can knock off with the term you give the Holy Spirit that puts Him in the category of something that can haunt a house.
@shamar314
@shamar314 7 жыл бұрын
In fact, most people are not Christians and commonly associate the word 'spirit' in the same way as you with 'ghost' - the spiritualist church, mediums contacting the spirit world, etc (or as a distilled alcoholic beverage - does this mean "we can knock off" the Holy Spirit and put Him in the category of something that merely gets us drunk for a price?) The important point is that words have meanings and to judge another's etymologically correct use of a word based upon your own cultural connotations with that word is using the world to define the things of the Lord. To put it another way, what are German Christians to do who have 'Heiliger Geist' for 'Holy Spirit'? Well 'Geist' means 'Spirit' but it is where we get the word 'Ghost' from. They perhaps do not use 'ghostbusters' and 'caspar the friendly ghost' to define their understanding of the Triune Godhead.

Apparently most recent Bible translations agree with me. They've changed the King James's "Holy Ghost" for "Holy Spirit" because of the same "spooky" connotations with ghosts. Wilkerson comes from the old school Pentecostal, with him the old verbiage is expected.
@shamar314
@shamar314 7 жыл бұрын
Indeed I agree most recent Bible translations use 'Spirit' exclusively, which is not wrong or objectionable as it is a suitable English translation of 'Ruach' and 'Pnuema' respectively within the given context. However, I'm not sure you have read any modern translation notes which state this choice is because of "spooky connotations with ghosts." With respect, I think that is merely your interpretation of why they have done so, though there is some truth in what you say; but you seem to fail to recognise my point that just because this is so does not mean that 'Ghost' is wrong or requires objection. Historically and etymologically 'Ghost' is also correct, as 2 mins research online would inform you.

Paul received a special commission from the Lord in regard of baptism. Jesus did not tell Paul to baptize anyone as He had the other disciples. Jesus Christ gave Paul a different mission from that of the twelve disciples. The Lord Jesus Christ commissioned Paul as the apostle of the Gentiles while peter and the eleven as apostle of Israel. Acts 9:15-16, Galatians 2:2, ROMANS 11:13, EPHESIANS 3:1, ACTS 20:24

"You Need the...." Yes and no. While the "promise" of such may be to all (Acts 2:39), as I discuss more fully in Xposts the practicality is not. God also needs those who study the Word in depth, etc . (Satirical; Socratic.) God has ordained both the continuationist and the cessationist, a needed tension in the Church due to our 'Christian' pride and resultant arrogance and haughty countenances--a problem as it is (Prov. 6:16-17a).

If you are born again, you already have the Holy Spirit living inside of you. The New Testament books encourage believers to be FILLED with the Spirit, which is a result of walking in obedience to the Lord. It is to be CONTROLLED by Him. If believers needed to seek the Baptism of the Spirit then why don't we read of this in all the epistles and New Testament books? There is NO emphasis on this! Because we already have everything we already need. We just need to walk in it. What happened in the book of Acts is unique for that particular time frame. Many believed intellectually but were not yet converted. Some believed into John the Baptists preaching but still were not converted. That is why there had to be an outward sign of conversion by tongues and signs and wonders; ie, the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Many signs were given then to validate the ministry of Christ and His disciples. This doesn't mean there are not still gifts for today, but what we saw happen during that monumental event in history is not what we necessarily should be seeing today. God does what He wants to, when He wants to.

And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47. Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48. And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

One baptism, many fillings. At conversion we are baptized into Christ. We are given the Spirit because we are children of God. But we can have many "fillings" afterwards as we yield to the Spirit. This isn't a mystical thing that we need to search for. As we obey the Lord according to His WORD, we will be filled with the Spirit. Don't let others fool you by making you think you have to "try" to get the baptism as if you are a second class Christian and don't have everything you need! No where in the New Testament writings after the book of Acts, are we exhorted to get the baptism. But we are exhorted to walk in the Spirit, be filled with the Spirit, obey the Spirit, yield to the Spirit. Because we ALREADY have the Spirit. Now we must obey His promptings, His Word. To be filled with the Spirit is to be CONTROLLED by the Spirit. Doesn't have to be a mystical thing.

+Louise C I thank God for the discernment He has given to you Louise. Every believer is baptized into the Holy Spirit at the moment of true regeneration. I believe that many are looking for a quick fix to all of their spiritual failures and believe that having a person lay hands on them, receiving what they believe to be the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and then coming out speaking in tongues will make them into a super Christian. It's not like that at all. True Christianity is a very difficult road of study and surrender and it is not something we do. It is something that we cry out to our God to work in us so that we can walk in a way that pleases Him. This is why we must receive constant fillings of the Holy Spirit because we are so prone to wander.

When the disciples of John (Acts 19) were asked "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" they replied; "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit". So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you receive?” Notice they weren't asked "which baptism?" Notice also that receiving the Holy Spirit is through baptism, hence the question "then what baptism did you receive?". That is because there is one baptism into the name of Jesus Christ unto salvation, in which you die to your old self, are buried with Christ in the watery grave in which Christ baptises with the Holy Spirit only those who go down into the water with a clear conscience toward God and a truly repentant contrite heart. Such persons are raised with Christ to a new life and are included in the invisible universal church of Christ, His body. Beautiful, simple and foolishness to those who “refuse to love the truth and so be saved”. If we look at all the situations in the book of Acts where foreign languages are spoken by people who never learned the language they find themselves speaking, we won't find the phenomenon associated with preaching the gospel or explaining the way of salvation, or being spoken as evidence that they have the Holy Spirit - however common such a misconception may be. On the Day of Pentecost, Jews from Israel who did not know the languages of the Jews of the diaspora began speaking the wonderful works of God in foreign languages (Acts 2:11). Those who heard them and understood were from the regions where these languages were spoken. "And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God". (Acts10:8-11) Notice that what was said was about God's works, and not a clear gospel presentation because the response of those who heard was, "Whatever could this mean?" (Acts2:12). This was not a gospel presentation. It was only in response to their question that Peter responded by presenting the way of salvation speaking in the local language which all the crowd, made up both of visitors and locals, understood (Acts 2:14-36). It was only after Peter preached that they understood the way of salvation and responded (Acts2:37-29). The gospel itself was not presented to them in their (many) native languages. But don't miss the flip side of what transpired! Because this is key to understanding Paul's comment about tongues being a sign [of judgment] for unbelievers. Notice that there were other Jews who also heard the foreign languages but did not understand them because they were Jews resident in Jerusalem and not from the diaspora. Their response was entirely different: Others mocking said, They are full of new wine (Acts 2:13). This is key: the praises and wonderful works of God were not proclaimed in the Hebrew or Aramaic which would have been expected due to God's previous focus on Israel and the Jews. Instead, He was using Gentile languages. In short: those skeptical Jews who were native to Jerusalem were being judged because God was not speaking in their language. These Jews thought the disciples were drunk with wine, a misunderstanding which Peter had to explain (Acts 2:15). This is very similar to the OT motive of God judging those who He had spoken to plainly: when they refused to listen, He spoke to them through foreigners whose actions they could not deny as being empowered by God. Biblical tongues are not happening today and it is vexatious to burden Christians to prove they have the Holy Spirit by speaking in tongues when it is no longer a gift administered by the Holy Spirit. Scripture tells us that not every Christian spoke in tongues even when it was. People who feel they must speak in tongues to prove they have the Holy Spirit are either faking or at worse opening themselves to an un-holy spirit. Glossolalia is not biblical tongues and no one hearing the jibberish spoken by it's practitioners ever said "I hear you speaking in my own language".

i thought you might want to SEE an article written by Betty Miller on "Baptism on the Holy Spirit: What the Bible Says." and Sam Storm's WERE TONGUES EVANGELISTIC OR A SIGN TO UNBELIEVING JEWS? Tongues simply happened to me as individual as believer as a gift from God's for spiritual empowerment. I wish that all people might prosphesy and speak in tongues for the praise and glory of God, - Amen 1 Corinthians 14:22-25 New International Version (NIV) 22 Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers. 23 So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? 24 But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, 25 as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!” Sounds hard to reconcile without the gifts of the Holy Spirit - i.e. Wisdom and Understanding to illuminate

In Acts 17 we read: 16 While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. 17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with both Jews and God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there. 18 A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to debate with him. Some of them asked, “What is this babbler trying to say?” Others remarked, “He seems to be advocating foreign gods.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection. 19 Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, “May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? 20 You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we would like to know what they mean.” 21 (All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.) 1 Corinthians 1:5 5 For in him you have been enriched in every way-with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge- Acts 2:4 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 19:6 6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. Mark 16:17 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 1 Corinthians 14:2 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 14:23 23 So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? 1 Corinthians 14:27-28 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, two-or at the most three-should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. 28 If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God. 1 Corinthians 13 Love Is Indispensable 1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. i Corinthians 14 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. I Cor 14:18 Paul said, ‘I speak in other tongues more than all of you’ New Testament Bible verses on tongues - describe the active use of tongues in the church - amid the believers and disciples.There are several kinds of Tongues mentioned in the NT: Angelic (I Cor 13:1); (I Cor 14:14); Tongues of Men (the different languages, etc.); etc...
