Isn't the metal tip on the plug a potential damager for the rim or rim tape?
@MrKipperfish2 жыл бұрын
Potentially, yes. More importantly, you can't run an emergency tube in that tire if the plug doesn't seal the hole. Dynaplug is a product adapted from cars, where the metal end doesn't matter nearly as much. I personally don't understand the benefit over a traditional bacon strip tool, since those allow you to use a tube if needed.
@RunBikeRun12 жыл бұрын
@@MrKipperfish the brass tip keeps the high pressure road tire from spitting the plug back out. In this instance, that is the advantage over a typical bacon strip.

@@evanm.2300 it can and does come off, it serves no other purpose other than to aid penetration of the tier. So yes a hard brass end can cause damage in a carbon rim damage the rim tape. Its hardly held on rubber strip. it will also hinder tube insertion if the plug fails.

Oh Gosh....look at my valve!! It's all clogged up with dried sealant....how will I pump the tire again. oh! I got a valve remover and a new valve....... All I do is whip out the old punctured tube, slap in the new one, and off I go, no excess tools are required, just 3 tire levers.

Wouldn’t the spike eventually damage the rim ??
@damo5219 Жыл бұрын
It’s been asked before. The answer was no. The metal tip eventually gets attached to tyre on the inside by sealant

Only issue: current worldwide shortage of Dynaplugs!
@Dreamweaver94 Жыл бұрын
Exactly like plugging a car tire, but easier. I wouldn't use this type of plug though, I don't like that metal spike being inside my rim. Couldn't a bad impact on that spike risk contact with your rim? A spike like that against a storm drain and a carbon rim could be a bad time.

It takes around 5 minutes to change the tube (back wheel), front is done in 3 but yeah plug is a minute

@@williamko4751 automobiles run low pressure tyres with 3-3.5 bar pressure. Road bikes tyres/inner tubes are inflatet to up to around 8 bar...thats a whole lot more pressure. Roadies 🤦♂️ point of tubeless isn’t that it seals the (very small) punctures, but to be able to ride low pressures (sub 100psi on road) without getting pinch punctures. Sealant seals the gaps between the tyre and rim, not the punctures.
