Bowie was very special to me. I used to get my hair cut like him in the late 70's. It was just so strange at the time, no one understood. I dragged my boyfriend to The Man That Fell To Earth. He kept wanting to leave,so we left half way through. I never saw the end until years late on some late night movie. Oddly one of my favourites is 1995's Outside, it has a similar aesthetic to The Man Who Sold the World as it delves into madness which was something David Bowie often worried about given his brother Terry's experiences.

I didn't really discover Bowie until much later in my life, but he was always there playing in the background. I don't know why it took me so long. Just like Grohl I really feel like there was something otherworldly about Bowie. I feel like it's much deeper than his persona. He was one of those incredibly rare Humans completely driven by creativity, like he'd breached some kind of artistic genius barrier so many others can't get through. It's hard to explain, but it just feels like he transcended beyond something 99.99% of creative people can't.

I thought he would tell the story of when he was in the studio with him. I don't remember which recording it was but I remember what he said in a interview at the time that Bowie sat on the floor surrounded by papers photos etc and wrote the lyrics on a piece of paper then when they finished he left and left the piece of paper there. Grohl said that all the people in the room stared at that piece of paper like a bunch of dogs at a bone and in the end it was him who took the paper and he put it in a frame at his house.

Bowie is a legend. He went out at 69 which is the most rockstar thing to do. He was the director of his fate. He turned his death into a performance. Sadly, no encore this time from the Starman. Perhaps the sun machine will come down one day and we'll all have a party... Until then we still have his music.

I always did say Bowie was way ahead of the times as far as music is concerned. I have always gotten a kick from youngsters saying have you heard that new song and the crazy sound it has in the background. Hate to tell you, Bowie had already created and played that sound way, way back when... Genius of Bowie. I always have wondered what music would have been created if Bowie and Prince had ever collaborated. Two scenarios, both being musical geniuses would have come out with a mind blowing LP/CD full of hits; or because of their egos and perfectionism would have been at each other's throats and both would try to outdo the other. End results would have been the same a mind blowing CD of hit after hit after hit songs.

IN MEMORY OF THE SLAIN HERO AND HIS RESURRECTION You roared like a Lion in Manhattan, you spent all your money and lived like a king...you fought the battles of the Lord and came to destitution. You cried out in the gates of the city like a leper Messiah, and none gave heed to your call except the outcasts and dregs of society. You gathered them together as a shepherd gathers his sheep...they came to life at your words, your art and your reckless abandon of all convention. You piped a wondrous tune and the light of light entered into them. You fell into the shadow of death and " looked for his ass". You flew from Station to Station like a demon in your mad quest for redemption--- you redeemed others, yet you didn't redeem yourself. How have the mighty fallen! Your days passed like a shadow, yet you fought the evil eye of Sauron...you fought the wild beasts in the forests of Mordor....the hordes of Gog and Magog descended upon you. They surrounded you like maddened bees, yet you cut them off in the name of the Lord. But Gog had the upper hand and slew you...he desecrated your body, he infested your temple with the wasting disease! Yet you held on to the last and made an everlasting memory of your strife, the cries of your art told the tale of your war, it told the gospel of your death, it published the news of your ascension...here you are, dwelling in heaven, no scars to be seen...here you are, one magical movement from Keter to Malkuth! Here you are, you fly like an angel from Station to Station! Fly on you crazy diamonds, and arise from the dust...the time of your warfare is past... He walks among us like a god among men...and who can tell his tale? He was not regarded by the high and mighty, he was cast off as a freak of nature....yet he gathered the outcasts of Israel...his memory endures forever! He will be given the spoils of war, he will be raised and exalted more than he ever was during the days of his mortality...he is the hope of all of those who have fallen in battle! Shine on, shine on you mad Man, you Hero, you Lazarus, you Blackstar!
