Lyrics
Oh, Little China Girl
Oh, Little China Girl
I could escape this feeling with my China Girl
I feel a wreck without my little China Girl
I hear her heart beating loud as thunder
Saw the stars crashing
I'm a mess without my little China Girl
Wake up in the morning wheres my little China Girl?
I hear hearts beating loud as thunder
I saw the stars crashing down
I'm feeling tragic like I'm Marlon Brando
When I look at my China Girl
I could pretend that nothing really meant too much
When I look at my China Girl
I stumble into town just like a sacred cow
Visions of swastikas in my head
Plans for everyone
Its in the white of my eyes
My little china girl
You shouldn't mess with me
I'll ruin everything you are
I'll give you television
I'll give you eyes of blue
I'll give you a man who wants to rule the world
And when I get excited
My little China Girl says
Oh baby, Just you shut your mouth
She says ... sh
She says
She says
And when I get excited
My little China Girl says
Oh baby, Just you shut your mouth
She says ... shhhhhhh
She says
She says
Oh, Little China Girl[x4]
About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

@@eddieingalls534 And the Stevie Ray Vaughn blues solos. Bowie can't take credit for the lyrics either. They were mostly written by Iggy Pop. But David (as usual) put it together which only he could, and made it something much more than its parts.

She's also a kiwi, so she likely went through racial prejudice in the past while growing up in a colonized nation (NZ can be pretty racist towards anyone who isn't British in some circles). Idk who Yuri even is, but I was laughing at Bowie's child like smile of innocence right after he pulled that move on his friend

The actress here, Geeling Ng, actually became Bowie's GF. By all accounts, Bowie was smitten with little Geeling. We're talking "thunderbolt." So, the tender expressions you see here were apparently genuine. And when they were done filming this video, they weren't done as a couple either. Bowie took Geeling on his Serious Moonlight world tour. She was a Bowie fan before she was chosen for this role. Can you imagine how thrilling this must have been for her? Like a dream come true.

@Anderson Cooper I did not know that. I read now that he had sex with underage groupies, but this was consensual sex, not rape. Of course, I realize that consensual sex with minors does not exist - for a good reason! Nevertheless, the case is different for me when a 40 year old man has sex with a child. Bowie was 26 when he slept with 14-year-old Lori Maddox, who looked and dressed much more mature. - He was charged with rape in the 1980s but found innocent. I do not want to defend him, he himself admitted that he was not always a good person in his life, especially when he was addicted to cocaine. Unlike Klaus Kinski I will not lose my admiration for him. He was an amazing artist and musican. (And he was and I guess will stay an attractive man to me.) - Sorry, if my english isn't to good.

Agreed one of my favourites too. You should check out the original by Iggy Pop. Naturally is a far more raw version but I love it. He wrote this and David covered it. Think Bowie wanted to help him out with some royalties. In the original version when in the song she says “baby just you shut your mouth” it’s in fact “Jimmy just you shut your mouth”. Because of course Iggys real name is James. Sounds so adorable. :)

I'm not as well-versed with Bowie as I could be, but if there were ever a version with an extended guitar solo at the end that would simply be fantastic! I mean there's something between bassline and guitar that just builds a really great bit of dramatic tension. Vaughn's guitar just seems to call out with a kind of heartache and it feels like he's just getting warmed up by the time the song fades out.

Bowie was his own Genre🤷🏼‍♀️He got such clear visions that just came out of the cosmos catapulting him into such diverse tunes like this one. Each of his projects were so unique and musically/lyrically rhythmically perfect, so suited to the times they were written for. I love how unique his voice was. He had a haunting quality to it and I think he was a master lyricist. He was also a great dresser he wore very cool and sometimes traditional; suit skinny tie and wool overcoat for example. He definitely marched to the beat of his own drum.

The Beach scene: Hard to imagine now that back in 83 this was considered pushing the boundaries of what is and what is not TV-friendly. Still one of my fave videos of all time.

The original beach scene was much hotter - it also featured shots of their butts and hints of their private parts and a full view of her breasts. That version was regularly aired in my country in 1983, so I still remember it. This is the toned down version - the edit was a result of public criticism in some countries, especially the USA, where Bowie lived at the time.

Brilliant recording and such a seductive, hot and enigmatic video (and of course perfectly paced to the various turns of the song. This is a massively enticing piece of film, both to the mind and to our desires. Also, a genuine feeling of foreboding and danger that's always worked on me with this song (for example in the basslines, and in his voice in the third verse, from two minutes flat onwards).
