I've watched so many videos of Dave putting together kits that if I see a fork at the grocery store I hear his voice. "That's a multi purpose item, I can use it for a frog gig and eating and by grinding the back sharp against a rock you got a makeshift blade."

You opened my eyes to trapping a few years ago and since then I was hooked. I was raised that trapping was an unsportsman way to get game and that it was cruel to wildlife. What an ignorant way to think. The knowledge you've shared is going to save lives. Presidents come and go but inflation and wars are going nowhere. Stay safe everyone!

I bought the bull pack 20 years ago for packing out elk . One of the best simple , comfortable pack frames I ever bought. Will hold more weight than you can carry. Great video Dave.

As a kid (12-15) years old, I used to trap muskrats in Colorado (dad trapped beaver). Was very fun. Had some great experiences. I used an old forest service fire pack to hall all my traps, wire, etc. and rode my bike to the various ranches that were on my trap line. Checked every night. Made enough to buy my first car.

Saw a comment here, someone asking about the flare and inquiring why Dave didn't have a pull start fire. Dave said he's seen one fail. Makes me think of the overall mentality. Practiced simple skills usually beat gadgets. I love the pull start fire starters. However, for more than three decades I've been troubleshooting the best firestarter from junk. I've used oils, waxes, animal fats, pine resin, sawdust, cottons, etc... I guarantee you, pound for pound ($ for $,) I can make a better fire emergency item by hand than store bought. Particularly if you consider simplicity and cost (nil.) It's all about putting in the work and I very much appreciate Dave's mentality and encouragement towards skill.

Love Dave's content. As I watch this, my coffee cup is resting on his Bushcraft 101 book, (on top of my Ashley book of knots).

Really interesting to see what you have in your kit. I keep something very similar in my car for the very same reason (cold water immersion, caught in a downpour, etc). Since I have my vehicle it's more about comfort than real survival but it's come in handy a few times when I, or a passenger, have fallen into a wet, muddy, and/or snowy patch. I have a contractor bag instead of a tarp, to put the wet clothes in and my tarp, cordage, and fire making kit are in a separate container with some other gear for if I'm stranded somewhere for a while (sleeping bag, water filter and bottled water, backup battery, snacks, etc)

Great video. The flare is great carried for years. Carried out dated ones I find around marinas because boaters have to have in date ones . Stay warm and dry enjoy

Great video!! Not just for trapping, but for all-day-hunting where you may become immersed in unseen water! you can put the trophies into the black trash can to pack them out, just need dry shoes.

My husband did 'pathfinders' as a boy, which the adults in his life said was to prepare him for the military, and he did become a sailor. idk if your class is the same type of thing. His 'pathfinders school' was like boy scouts but more religious. I got him in to survival and hunting even tho he was in the navy. I wish I wasn't so self conscious or I would go to your class. I would love to try to practically apply what I have learned from you over the years.

Really great video Dave. Thank you. I look forward to taking one of your classes one day. Until then I try to practice my skills with the help of your videos. Dave for the emergency fire stater wouldn't that one you showed a few months ago be better option?

Great video, K.I.S.S! Always glad to see Zahn (or is it spelled Zon?) make his appearances! Where does one find that bull pack? Is it something you used to sell? It reminds me of the oyster bucket bicycle panniers that the late (great) Val Kleitz promoted for bicycles. I would love to own one of those Queen Wool blankets.. those are sweet, and american made too? Icing!

Have you considered a pack of hand warmers to help effect dexterity if your hands are in bad shape
@gordonlawrence1448Ай бұрын
I have something similar but it is on webbing. It is identical to the 1990's British Army webbing except high visibility. It means I can carry a large pack as well. The only difference is I have an EPLB (emergency personal locator beacon that works via satalite worldwide), water bottle, one days food and a space blanket too. The belt kit should be worn at all times if you are even in a group.

Food for thought Why not just a change of clothes Dry cloths and start walking you should get warmed up then less weight on your back and for us older guys with bad backs knees cause we been doing this for so long it’s just safer I have fell through the ice filled hip boots actually you walk after dumping the water out you stay warm enough to keep going Thoughts ??? I do like the video not being negative at all
