I would real!y enjoy this type of career. Thanks for the information. Y'all are an inspiration. As a young girl, I sold Christmas and other cards door-to-door (in the old days, there was little danger in this) and I was the one in my family of six who would decorate the tree, make crafts, and play carols on the piano. The season was always, and still is, a true comfort and joy to me.

Any insight on rates for items would also be helpful. In the case of leased decor are you usually also doing the deinstall/Takedown? You are gifted and I love that you work together. Thank you for your kind words. With leasing, it all depends on the situation. But we usually charge 30% of the retail price for the rentals.

Since this my 2nd year decorating trees professionally and I m struggling with if I should charge by the hour or flat rate when decorating clients tree ?

Hi! We typically charge by the hour, but we tell the customer almost down to the minute how many hours it will be so there are no surprises. Some jobs, we price by the job. That way, if we have to stop and handle other business (since we have a retail and wholesale store) while we are on the job site, our customer isn't getting stuck with the bill. Also, keep in mind supply and demand. If you are just getting your clientele built, you usually have to charge less. But when you start having more demand than there is you to go around, you are able to increase your rate. Hope this helps! Best wishes to you this upcoming Christmas season.

Hello David and Jan, quick question, for example If you charge $50.00 an hour but you are bringing 3 people to the job site, do you charge $50.00 per each person so total of $150.00 per hour of you charge the $50.00 and hour general for all the help you are bringing ? Thank you and advance.

Hi! We typically charge extra if we have to bring help with us. The charge is based on the skill level of the person we bring. If they are just there to hand us things, unwrap stems, cut off tags, etc, we charge less for that person than if it’s another designer. In the end, more people means less time on the job, and most people wanting the work done would be okay with say $150 an hour if you were able to get it done quickly. Hope that helps!

How many homes do y’all do a year?

We usually do between 30-40 homes/businesses between October and December. Some are multiple day jobs. Some are in other states, as well. This is between 3 designers and some assistants.
