Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup kzbin.infoUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

All my friends laugh at me, but I’m old. And ain’t nothing like a 3,4,5, or 6 liber on a medium or medium light. I may not get him in the boat and I call that a good release. But the memories I’ve made with my fairy wands are priceless😁👍

I've been fishing with my Grandfathers spinning gear since I was four. I just bought my first catch'n'keep fishing license in ten years. It's been way too long since I've gotten a line in the water. From our downtown apartment I can walk down to the river and fish in the shadow of Parliament Hill. This is the first summer since my Dad passed; he's the one that taught me to fish. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown

Coming from trout fishing in the PNW, spinning rods are second nature for me. I'm a full hand feather-er, as it sets me up to flip the bail almost instantly after the cast.

This was exactly what I was thinking when I watched the feather fingering, I was like uhhh I just use my hand as I prepare to close the bail, I heard its bad for the reel to use the handle to flip the bail.

In my youth and young adult life I had always fished for trout and panfish with spinning rods. Spinning rods have been all I've ever needed. Fast forward 4 decades later with about the last 3 decades of just occasional fishing while raising our children, I've finally gotten a long awaited fishing kayak to return to fishing. That said, I'm coming back with a strong interest in Bass fishing and have been struggling with the criticism and pressure from fellow fishermen to elevate my reels to bait casting reels, with their claims that spinning reels aren't sufficient enough. Prior to watching this video, and having never used a bait casting reel, I was almost tempted to get one in order to see why they feel this way and what all the hype is about. Thank you for clarifying and supporting the facts that a spinning reel is not only more than capable but all that is needed. Shalom aleichem

Love all the tips. Fishing in upstate NY a spinning rod is a staple for me. I always when rigging the night before make sure I have 2 set up at least to take with me .If that water is cold or ultra clear thats all that will work is finess baits and small line . Any who thinks its a sissy rod has not watched too much pro fishing lately . Seems as if more and more guys are to turning to spinning gear to get a bite . Hope all is well my freind with you and your family . Looking forward to another live show soon . Take care and stay healthy !!

I just watched this video and commented 2 weeks ago. Ill say it again, the 2 biggest advantages you get from spinning rod is the fact the drags are butter smooth, and this is with a 50 to 100 spinning reel, I have lews, Daiwa, Shimano, Mitchell's, pluegers, Abu Garcia, I've got em all and used em all. You have to spend 150 plus on a bait caster to get what I consider a good drag. But the 2nd thing is the fact you can learn to skip baits in places you didn't think possible. You take and master that skill, don't even attempt skipping with bait caster until you're a master with spinning rod. There's no reason you can't use the same baits on spinning gear you can bait caster its all about the action and line size you pair with that rod action. After you learn with spinning gear, then take the muscle memory and master bait caster. Crappie fishing docks in winter time when bass fishing is slow is fun and good practice. There's always some kind of fish hanging around a dock you can skip a berkley gulp alive minnow to on 1/16 or 3/32 ounce jig head. You'll be watching your line too, and that rate of speed fishing is very comparable to whacky rigging. It's slow but fun and good practice. Plus you can harvest from God's free grocery store.

Last week I was skipping a 1/6 ounce Rooster Tail under a dock with a spinning rod. To be honest, that was my first time skipping any type of lure...casting or spinning reel and it was done on accident now I know how to skip a lure. Tight lines!

I believe one can catch fish on either bait casting or spinning. I love spinning reels. I’m throwing bigger baits now going after size over numbers. Many big game saltwater fisherman use big spinning reels. I just got some saltwater rods and bigger reels for large glide baits and swim bats. It’s working for me.

Good video. Same as I’ve been doing from line to knots for a couple of years now. Wish I had this video to watch 4 years ago. Would of saved me hundreds of hours and trying out things I saw on KZbin to get to this point. Great information. Ps I to am a huge finesse fisherman. Ned, wacky, weightless plastics and my favorite the Neko on spinning rod with 20lb Smackdown to 8 lb floro. CRUSH them with these. Also I did pick up a tip on skipping to keep rod around 3 o’clock. I’ll have to give that a go. Thanks for always giving real and useful tips. A lot of videos promise tips but don’t deliver. I can’t watch Mike Iconelli anymore. Feel like he’s always just peddling Berkeley and doing click bait videos. Anyway thanks again. I’ll keep tuning in!

Thanks David, Skeet Reese taught me that spinning rod technique about 22 years ago. Sure beats the heck out of what the average fisherman does to cast a spinning rod, which I call the "HAIL MARY" which usually turns into the "Oh hell Mary". Good article, you have convinced me to work up a grade in lure size. I've always fished primarily ultra-lite, but just as you say, it's really tough to skip a bait caster. Best of luck this year to you!
