I think the uncanny valley comes from the fact that he's exposing too much of his teeth, and the eyes and brows are not squinted enough to express the same level of emotion as his mouth does

I haven't found a figure I can make a Zeus out of yet, but I have added a Poseidon, Apollo, Athena, and of course my 'Daughter of Apollo' to my Olympians. Still have a lot more Asgardians, and only Raiden for Asian Pantheon. There is a Monkey King up at BBTS though. If I ever have the money for him.

I think the head issues are why Johnny Cage and Liu Kang are not released yet... Its not easy to overcome the uncanny valley effect. Just my personal opinion. Skipped Kung Lao because of this. Hopefully we will see a MKII Shang Tsung with his Soulsucker fatality from SC soon.

Without the hat he looks like Jaws from James Bond and with the hat on he looks like he is pooping. I have a huge problem with the throwing hat because all I kep thinking was how is this held by the figure. I have the storm collectables Doomsday and my only complaints are the loose diaper and the head is a bit small but otherwise it is a fantastic figure and sooooo much better than the Doomsay BAF. I just wish the DC col head fit on the storm one. Great review but that is another pass for me.

Those head sculpts are not good. I think the sculpt on either side nose into the cheeks connecting to the part directly above the upper lip on the one gritting his teeth is what causes most of the issue. It's very concave. Also there's no lip definition especially on the upper lip. If you can call it a lip? It's more like an upper ridge. Maybe they figured that no one was going to display him with the hat off. So they didn't really bother. The white of the eyes aren't painted either.

That hat looks like a mexican “sombrero”. I think its because of the shape. Give him a guitar and a pair of maracas and he is off to start a one man mariachi band. Nothing against mexicans or mariachi bands but Kung Lao is neither of the two.

I'm a huge Kung Lao fan but after seeing review videos, I had to skip him. I hate to say this but he looks like a custom not a professional release. Hopefully the next version, if there is one, is a better release. I'm surprised they haven't done any of the female characters- MK3 Sonya please.
