Replacing the Batteries on a Harbor Freight Welding Helmet

This is a Chicago Electric Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet from Harbor Freight. Item number 91214. There are two CR2335 batteries that are soldered in. I experimented with soldering an exhausted battery and it works but I think it's bad for the battery and dangerous in that the battery can explode. Why bother soldering in fresh batteries when you would have to replace them in about 5 years?

Why not just use aluminum or copper tape?

Why is it that whenever I go to use my welding helmet (which isn't often) the battery is dead? Why is current being drawn when the helmet is just lying there? Should I be storing it in the black bag it came in for some reason? It is very perplexing because these things have no on/off switch.

I'm not getting that problem. It's possible you might have a current drain. I suggest that if your helmet has a solar panel, try leaving it out in the sunlight to absorb some UV rays.

@@davidgpo The solar panel is there to pick up the weld flash and supply the signal voltage to dim the visor. I don't think it is there to recharge a non rechargeable cell.

The lens is held in by a long wire spring. You just bend the wire slightly and swing it out of the way of the lens. Then you lift the lens out of the window. I hope this helps.

You would have killed a good battery like that you got to heat it quickly and solder the wire quickly for this you need a high power solder gun I’ve done it many times with 18650
