I knew a US Army Captain during the Vietnam War era who wore the large eagle cap badge. His father was an officer in WWII, and it may have been his fathers.

Great collection!! I once used mineral oil on severely dried straps and visor and was able to save the cap. I put a light coat on with my finger--careful not to touch the fabric, let it soak for an hour, then blotted it off with a paper towel, then I waited another hour and blotted it again. If you get too much oil on, you have to wrap it overnight to soak it up--so dont do that-it is really easy to stain the fabric. In this case less is better--as you can always do it again. This does not always work, as sometimes age has rendered the leather into a potato chip, but I was able to save a B-29 pilots cap in this way. Perhaps this method could be a last resort to save a cap. Thanks for a good video!!!

Great video. Did the European theaters and Pacific theaters have different style and colors ?

+Bobay Fett I'm no expert but I don't think there is a simple yes/no answer. Wool uniforms were most commonly worn in Europe and cotton uniforms were most commonly worn in the Pacific due to the difference in weather. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Army_uniforms_in_World_War_II

Any advice on how to block a WAC Hobby Hat..that is to get the upper portion to stand up????

Wasn't it mostly bomber pilots and co-pilot who wore the crusher while flying with their headphones on? I believe fighter pilots had to wear the leather or cloth flight helmets in those more cramped, confining cockpits of fighter planes.

It was though fighter pilots did wear them while out and about. Fighter pilots didn't wesr them during flights because the hat would fall off when doing all those twist, turns, and loops.

Bomber pilots typically fly straight and level during flights which is why it was difficult to re-train a bomber pilot to be a fighter pilot

What you write describes a post WW 2 officers hat. The US Army went to green/black/gold starting in 1958.
