For everyone interested in buying this, I was refused funding by GoFundMe and a few other crowdsourcing places because they consider this "firearms related". I do not have the space, equipment or materials to do this in my garage and offer these for sale. I had intended to mass produce these but it's simply not something I can handle at this time.

You can buy Biaxial Carbon fiber rolls that are already in crossed direction layers. (Many times stronger than standard weave CF ! ) It's made for industrial strength applications, but doesn't have that common pleasing appearance you'd expect from the standard weave. of course, you can always add a weave layer...

The term -proof is an accurate armourer term from medieval europe and the English civil war. When a noble asked an armourer to make a suit of armour, or a roundhead got some pre-made armour, the armourer was often asked to 'prove' it was effective. The armourer would thrust a sword at the brestplate with all his might in front of the noble to satisfy his fear of being run through. If the weapon did not penetrate it was deemed sword proof. Because it was proven to be so. Nobody took anyones word that the armour was sound, demonstration was required, and armour was tested for each weapon, a sword proof breast plate was not spear proof unless it was proven to be so, for example. I picked this up watching historical youtube content on the english civil war. One of the last wars with gunpower that combatants still wore metal armour. Some metal breatplates where infact bullet-proof (the armourer would fire a pistol at near point blank range).

Theres a reason metal armor requires demonstration metal is not uniform no matter whathe samd process on two seperate ores will never create thd exacts same durability. This is a big reason steal plates are sketchy as fuck the PROCESS is rated to stop rounds(they tested some examples) but every plate made the same way will never bs the same strength leading to dud plates that can hardly stop anything every now and then

Tip, use PVA polyinylalcohol as a release agent instead of wax, that is what I use when molding fiberglass. Also dont use carbon fiber use kevlar. Ballistic kevlar is readily available and inexpensive. I woke with FG and other cloth in my business of fab and marine repair. You can also do a vacuum process that works better.

One tip I got for the mold making, you made the M and F parts 1:1 which is often fine but for such a thick _(þicc)_ part it would help to have the M part a bit undersized and/or F part a bit oversized, It would help a lot with getting even pressure on the whole part and make removing it a lot easier. ... But I guess since you're not working with this anymore, this is more of a tip to your viewers

"Bulletproof" means proof tested to stop a particular ballistic threat. Also, a suggestion: Use Kevlar/Twaron recycled from expired body armor instead of fiberglass, laid up with marine grade vinyl ester epoxy.

A thin layer of ballistic gel lining the inside can absorb all shock from impact. Try using that also.

Bed liner does ad ballistic resistance to anything that is painted with it to a small degree, it can be used to reinforce block walls

This has got me thinking. I know fiberglass is a great option but I'm concerned with when/if(leaning more to when) the armor fails and the amount of debris that bullet brings with it into a wound. Delaminated fiberglass...well fibers are nasty things as most people are aware. Cost notwithstanding, it's a lot easier to pick kevlar out of a wound with minimal additional damage vs literal glass fibers tearing up a wound even more. That's a thought I developed after talking about something similar to an army field medic and a civ doc in my circle of friends so disclaimer there. Any additional adjustments or changes would likely come into play when potentially using this method for additional armor(i.e. some form of bracing/support system for a combined shoulder and chest/back plate to reduce strain) but that would be a further down the road issue. Also i don't remember anything being said about it in this or the previous video but, how tightly sealed was your mold with only 4 bolts? Were the 4 bolts really sufficient? If not, I'm worried about addition layer delamination risk. Love the design though. I also think your methods are practical and highly repeatable with a fairly low enough complexity that almost anyone could repeat the process and good results.

Quick cheap tip. If you’re not doing a lot of this kind of work you might try using space saver vacuum bags and a standard shop vac. It takes some experimentation but you can get some really good results without the cost associated with a full vacuum bagging setup. You will need other materials like peel ply and breather/bleeder cloth but you may find some acceptable substitutes for a decent price.

Fun fact, bullet proof back then didn't mean it "proof" from bullet, but rather it mean this armour has been tested via shooting it and it survive. Therefor it is bullet proof.

Try a band saw next time to trim and cut. Will be a whole lot more enjoyable. Hahaha and a lot less messy, especially if you get a nice bandsaw that has a vac hookup. And you can switch to a metal blade for your metal working. Win win. Also be intrestead in how you would do the opposing shoulder to still allow use of a rifle.

masking tape is your friend. if you tape the cloth where you intend to cut out panels, it mitigates fraying and distortions, allows for index marking, and eases alignment and handling of wetted panels. If you were going to make these for production - I'd create a second mold with reinforced steel that's been sharpened - so you can put the over sized, but shaped, part into the second press and simply by bolting it down - it cuts the shape for you rather than using the cutting disc. Simple 2 ton press would be able to clip through the excess fiber glass/epoxy that you don't need.

The top solder should have a line of layer for the bullet to not direct to head . If the bullet bend on the curve of the shoulder armour , chances are it could easily penetrate on skull

Using a stiff plastic squeegee or resin spreader rather than a brush will speed things up abit. Always helpful with so many layers. Also, using fined rollers called “bubble busters” is very helpful to get all the air out. The laminate is strongest when it’s got just enough resin in it to saturate it, and no more. The bubble buster rollers, which come in different lengths and diameters, as well as barrel shaped, ( thick in the middle, tapering to the ends) really help in concave surfaces like this. You are doing the same thing by pressing the two halves together, but it must be a pain to cram all those layers in. The rollers ought to speed things up. You could use pieces closer to the finished size and cut down on waste as well. 2 part Epoxies usually only give you 1- 1 1/2 hours of working time before they are too stiff to wet out the cloth, speed is good.

Just a note about Carbon Fiber, if your going to sand it for a finish add extra layers. Because once you sand it that layer is compromised and has lost its strength. Love the video

T.B Comics the problem is Beskar is hard to come by so it's expensive. and without the proper equipment and training forging it to its renown resistive properties is impossible. maybe if he made some armor out of sheet steel, it would still be cool.
